We went through how tax works and why it is important. We talked about how the amount of tax changes according to an individual’s income. Peyton understood the conceptual ideas very well. When Peyton started to understand the rate calculation, then it became a bit easier for Peyton. However, more practice is need because this is a new concept
Learning how to interpret the tax table was a bit challenging for Peyton. Because calculating how much a person will be taxed on had a rate-like nature to it and determining that rate was a bit confusing at times. However, we did a lot of practice so that Peyton would feel comfortable at it.

Peyton has finished financial mathematics unit and has started Pythagoras theorem. She is very confident at this topic because of the simple nature of using one formula. We worked on some basic skills of converting metrics. She was able to find the perimeter of a shape once she understood the conversion fundamentals by using the diagram. We briefly touched on simplifying fractions with all the dos and don’ts.
Peyton did indicate that converting units was a challenge for her. She mainly struggled with remembering that conversion diagram. Therefore, I taught her some tips and tricks to aid her in the remembering process.

We went back to basics because these are the fundamentals of everything and will help Peyton to apply it everywhere. She did very well in learning the rules, knowing the tricks and fine details that goes unnoticed sometimes. Peyton fully understood what terms are, like terms and indices. She also demonstrated it by doing practice questions. I could tell she was learning because she was asking good questions.
Peyton did stumble in a few places such as simplifying long expressions that had a term in between two like terms. But that was quickly clarified, and I taught that rearranging technique to make the expression less intimidating.
