What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I like the idea of being able to see a student's growth from not understanding something to being able to explain a concept themselves.
As a swim teacher, I'm used to having to tell a lot of simple information in a short amount of time to keep the class moving; when tutoring, I would be able to take more time to explain a subject in depth and ensure that a student understands it.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I consider myself quite patient. When a student doesn't understand something or if they not prepared I don't hold it against them and I adjust my explanation for their level of expertise.
I also have a wide array of knowledge in various subjects. Although I didn't select it because I don't want to tutor it up to year 10, I would feel comfortable tutoring science up to year 8, possibly year 9 as I always performed well in science up to year 9, and then performed well in similar subjects like biology and psychology up to year 12.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Coming prepared to every session. The session is a time for the student to ask and have questions answered, not a time for the tutor to finally decide what should be done that lesson. This doesn't mean there's a rigid structure that doesn't change, but a combination of structure to follow, as well as being prepared for if the student is behind or even ahead of where they are expected to be.
Also, I should be knowledgeable in the subject, but more importantly if I don't know the answer to a question, I know where to find the answer and how to explain it to the student as soon as possible.
