What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

As someone who loves academia, the ability to tutor combines sharing my knowledge on areas that I'm interested in as well as forming meaningful connections with young people. I've always enjoyed spending time with kids and I recognise the responsibility as a role model for students that goes beyond tutoring. Being able to see my students flourish and engage further in their learning through any help that I can provide brings me such joy and fulfilment that is often hard to find in our world.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

Beyond my academic abilities and knowledge, I believe I possess a gentle and warm aura that allows people, and in this context, young students, to feel at ease in my presence. I believe this is a very important strength for a tutor as kids require a sense of understanding and security when they're learning, if they feel uneasy or uncomfortable, they're unlikely to fully engage with the lesson. I have an excellent personal and emotional awareness that allows me to identify people's traits and personality, allowing my tutoring to be student-specific based on their needs and inherent qualities.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Beyond simply helping a student improve their grades, I believe a tutor should aim to further engage their students in their learning and to actively enjoy school. It's one thing to explain to a student how to approach concepts and assessment tasks, but to actively encourage them to love school is something that separates a good tutor from a fantastic one. I think kids aren't taught how to get the most out of school and if they are, they can unlock their true academic potential that their parents aim for them to achieve. The balance of a meaningful connection and academic betterment is the ultimate goal.

About DANIEL

What's my story?

Growing up in Sydney, I moved to Melbourne two years ago as I felt ready to leave the homenest and pursue my own ambitions. At home I have two younger brothers whom I'm very close with and often find it difficult being away from them so much of the time. Having only just commenced university at age 21, I have spent the last 3 years travelling Europe and South America as I felt the decision on what, where and how I was going to study needed more deliberation and time. During these travels I realised my passion for linguistics, culture and international relations, leading me into my degree of International Studies and Spanish! I consider myself a worldly person with an outward look on life that I attribute to my travels and time living overseas in Singapore and the UK. I've relished being able to re-engage in my studies in recent months and have found tutoring an excellent way to keep my mind sharp as well as form some new, meaningful connections with parents and students.

What are my interests and hobbies?

I am an extremely active person, always trying to keep my mind and body moving and engaged. I often spend my time running, playing basketball or soccer, cycling or trying new physical activities! In my downtime you'll find me reading, playing chess or practicing my Spanish. Recently in my life I've come to understand the solace that peace, consistency and mindfulness can bring a person, which is an aversion away from recent years where I was striving for more short-term goals that wasn't aligning me with the future I imagine for myself.

How have my experiences made me a good tutor?

As the eldest of two younger brothers, I understand the delicacies and intricacies of a child's mind and how it is up to their role models, whether it be parents, a sibling or a tutor, to nourish and encourage their talents to shine. Growing up, my parents allowed me to explore my passions and my way of expressing myself that I believe is critical for young people, as misguidance or inhibiting kids blocks their potential and ultimately, their happiness. My travels have allowed me to see many different walks of life, leading me into my current self who is thoughtful, emotionally intelligent and grateful that I am able to connect with all types of people. While I was travelling in South America, I would often talk with older people in their native Spanish, attempting to understand their experiences and perceptions on life in an environment wildly different to my own. These experiences showed me the potential we all have to unite and grow together, which I believe is a core skill I bring to my students on their academic journey's.
