The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be 100% attentive to both their wants and needs. A tutor's role is equivalent, if not, equal to a normal teacher's. Every student under their guidance relies on them for help in how to succeed not just as a student, but as a person with a mind constantly growing every day.
