What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy tutoring because every session feels different and can present a new challenge. I get a real satisfaction from doing my job well and seeing students understand something new, or have a lightbulb moment where everything clicks. I also enjoy the content I teach, so I'm never bored or uninterested in preparing or delivering content. Seeing progress when tutoring - both in my own skills and confidence and the students'- over the course of a longer time is also really fulfilling - as opposed to other part time jobs, where the work can get repetitive.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my experience tutoring and coaching multiple different subjects (maths, programming, verbal and science reasoning, cricket) has lead me to develop a more versatile and adaptive tutoring style, and I am good at finding the right way to teach different concepts. Another strength is that I have a real passion for both education in general and the subjects I teach which comes through and can really improve the students' motivation and outlook on what they're learning. Sometimes the attitude of your teacher can shape your own opinions, so I ensure I always have a positive attitude.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
For a student to achieve success, they need to put in the work and practice. The tutor's job is making that as easy as possible and removing any blockers. This usually comes down to identifying exactly what is costing the student time and motivation - whether that is understanding of concepts, lack of interest in the topic, lack of time to self learn or mark work, etc. The most important things a tutor can do will be to understand their students strengths and weaknesses and tailor tutoring plans to make the best use of the time and focus only on what the student cannot do for themself.
