What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Being a tutor is a role that requires patience and skill, but above all, genuine care and empathy for your students. I love to see my students flourish in both their abilities and their confidence when given the proper encouragement and motivation. Tutoring is a role centred on the student, and this personal interaction and relationship building is another aspect that I enjoy about tutoring. I enjoy being a positive role model that guides students throughout their schooling journey, someone who helps students find joy and confidence in going to school and taking tests.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

As a student myself, I understand that teachers don't always explain topics in a way that resonate with their students. I have been successful helping my students, as I am able explain things in a way that makes sense from a student perspective. It is essential to be able to adapt the way one teaches to match the learning style and capability of the mentee. Being able to pick up on these differences between students is a skill which I am successful in executing, providing the most specialised experienced possible for each individual mentee.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

It is essential for the tutor to present themselves, their content, and their teaching methods in a way which makes the lesson engaging and enjoyable for the student. The tutor is a great influence on the student, and by showing a love and passion for what is being taught, the tutor is able to influence the student to experience the same love and passion for the subject. This is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, helping them find the confidence to believe in themselves and their capabilities through fostering enjoyment and motivation.

About Gemma

High-achieving maths student who understands exam pressure

Gemma is a high-performing Year 12 ATAR graduate, estimating an ATAR of around 98, and is now studying Engineering and Commerce. She tutors high school students in Mathematics and related subjects, helping them lift exam results and study confidence. Drawing on her own experience in advanced STEM programs and academic achievement clubs, she breaks tricky concepts into clear, step-by-step explanations. Parents value that she not only knows the content, but also teaches practical exam techniques, time management, and how to stay calm under pressure.

Experienced one-on-one tutor with a personalised approach

As a private high school tutor, Gemma works with multiple students, identifying specific gaps in their learning and building tailored plans to address them. She uses a mix of worked examples, practice questions and revision checklists, adjusting her style for different learning speeds and personalities. She tracks progress with achievable goals, gives detailed, constructive feedback, and celebrates small wins to keep students motivated. This tutor’s sessions are structured but friendly, helping even underconfident learners start to enjoy maths.

Confident young role model with strong communication skills

Beyond academics, Gemma brings strong communication and leadership from her work as an assistant dance instructor, where she teaches high school students with little or no experience to perform confidently at formal events. Her background in public speaking, theatre and dance means she explains ideas clearly and builds quick rapport with teens. As a mental health ambassador and community volunteer, she is calm, empathetic and approachable, creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and learn from mistakes.
