About Michael

Experienced Maths Mentor with a Strong Academic Foundation

Michael brings a rare mix of advanced maths training and real teaching experience. He holds a science degree with strong grounding in maths, chemistry, geology and mineralogy, followed by postgraduate study in pure maths and statistics. He has tutored university students in geology and mineralogy, explaining complex concepts step by step and marking practical work. This tutor now applies that same clarity and structure to school maths, helping students build confidence from the basics through to more challenging topics.

Proven Tutor and Instructor Across Ages and Abilities

Michael has privately tutored high school maths students as well as his own four children, guiding them through maths and science as they moved through school. Earlier, he worked as a teenage beginner guitar tutor, giving him extra insight into how younger learners stay engaged. He has also been formally trained as an instructor through school cadets and the army reserve, where he taught map reading, compass use and first aid, honing his ability to break skills into clear, manageable steps.

Patient, Analytical Approach Backed by Leadership Experience

With decades of leadership and mentoring behind him, this tutor is skilled at reading a studentโ€™s current level and adjusting his approach accordingly. His background in quality assurance and problem solving means he looks for patterns in a studentโ€™s errors and targets the root cause, not just the symptoms. Michael combines calm patience with a practical, downtoearth style, aiming to make maths feel less intimidating and more like a series of small, achievable wins for each student.
