What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love being able to support people flourishing in academics. Watching ideas suddenly click or a problem that once seemed impossible being solved brings me such joy. It signifies the reward for all the hard work put in to improving their skills, and it's something I hope to achieve for all students.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

My strengths come from being flexible to the individual needs of the student. Each person has unique ways of learning and challenges to their progress. I always tailor my tutoring to the person I'm helping so they best understand the concepts.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them patience. Most people want to be able to do things easily and quickly, but many of the things they will learn are complicated and take time to understand. Having a tutor who can provide that perspective and give space for the student to struggle is essential to one day overcoming the challenge. All students deserve the chance to succeed, but each one will take their own time to get there.

About Carissa

Engaging STEM Role Model with Real-World Experience

Carissa is a biomedical engineering student who brings strong maths and science thinking into every lesson. She is used to breaking down complex ideas into clear, step-by-step explanations, ideal for both primary and high school students. Through her studies, she has developed excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, which she turns into practical examples and real-life scenarios to keep students curious and engaged. This tutor enjoys showing how classroom concepts connect to everyday life, helping students see the point of what they are learning.

Hands-On Experience Supporting Children’s Learning and Wellbeing

Carissa has worked closely with children as a babysitter, planning 2–3 learning-based activities each day that blend play with skill-building in reading, writing, and basic maths. She is used to managing routines, communicating clearly with parents, and ensuring children feel safe and supported. Her experience coordinating daily updates for parents means she is comfortable discussing progress and next steps, and she brings that same structure into tutoring sessions, with clear goals and gentle guidance.

Organised, Patient and Great at Explaining Things

Through her leadership role in a large student-run conference, Carissa has managed logistics for over 1,000 participants and led a team of 10 people, sharpening her organisation, time management, and communication skills. She uses these strengths to plan focused, well-structured tutoring sessions that make good use of every minute. Having also taught customers about caring for animals and habitats, she is practised in adjusting explanations to different ages and knowledge levels, ensuring students feel confident asking questions and building independence.
