What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

After working on a topic with the children, seeing them get the “ah hah†moment and comprehend the task and be able to carry it out by themselves with little to no support.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I’m a qualified primary school teacher so I have year of experience in the classroom. I’m patient, kind, approachable, reassuring and encouraging.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

To get down to their level and fully understand why they find a topic hard. Reassure them that we’re going to work on it together and stop along the way to allow them to ask questions or ensure they understand so far. Sometimes children say they understand when they don’t, so questioning would be a big one for me as it allows me if they comprehend what we’re carrying out. Be calm, friendly, patient and encouraging. When the children are able to carrying it out by themselves, make it a big deal, congratulate them by giving a high five and reminding them they are well able.

About Laoise

Experienced Primary Teacher Across All Class Levels

Laiose is a fully qualified primary school teacher with a Bachelor of Education and several years’ full-time classroom experience. She has taught every level from Junior Infants to upper primary, including roles in learning support and an ASD class. This tutor is very familiar with planning lessons, assessing progress in English and Maths, and writing clear, detailed reports for parents. Her day-to-day classroom work means she understands the curriculum deeply and knows how to explain concepts in a way children can grasp and remember.

Targeted Support in English, Maths and Learning Needs

Beyond mainstream teaching, Laoise has worked closely with children who have additional learning needs and those learning English as an additional language. She has supported oral language development online, provided one-to-one supplementary provision for a child with ASD, and regularly administered and corrected standardised English and Maths assessments. This experience allows her to spot gaps quickly, break learning into manageable steps, and adapt activities so that each student feels challenged but not overwhelmed.

Active, Encouraging Role Model and Coach

Outside the classroom, Laoise brings strong leadership and coaching skills. She has coached primary school children in hockey for many years, completed formal coaching and child protection training, and helped run a children’s summer camp. On the pitch, she uses games, clear instructions and positive feedback to build skills and confidence—an approach she brings into her tutoring sessions. Her background in team sports and youth leadership means she knows how to motivate children, keep them engaged, and make learning feel enjoyable and active.
