What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I would enjoy most about tutoring is being part of the process where a concept finally “clicks†for a student. From my own VCE experience, I know how frustrating those late nights can be when even an Edrolo video can’t quite make something make sense. Sometimes all it takes is hearing something explained in a slightly different way by a different person. I would also really enjoy building supportive and friendly working relationships with students so they feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them - because that’s how students improve the most.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

think one of my main strengths as a tutor is that I understand the VCE system well - I’ve played the game myself, so I have a clear sense of what assessors are looking for, particularly in subjects like English. Having only recently completed VCE, I can give students practical strategies that are realistic and relevant for SACs and exams. Additionally, having a younger brother has helped me become comfortable explaining concepts to younger students as well, so I feel confident supporting a range of year levels.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think tutoring is largely about building confidence. Sometimes students already have the ability, but they just need someone to help bring that confidence out in them. Having recently experienced the pressures of oral language exams, after-school SACs, and intensive holiday programs myself, I understand how overwhelming school can feel at times. Because of this, I want to provide students with support that helps make school feel more manageable and less intimidating, while also giving them the strategies they need to succeed independently.

About Poppy

High-achieving recent graduate who understands the struggle with maths

Poppy is a high-achieving recent school graduate with an ATAR above 95 and strong results in senior Mathematics and English. What sets her apart is that maths did not always come easily to her, so she learnt to break problems into clear, manageable steps and develop her own strategies. This tutor now uses those same techniques to help students who feel “stuck” or anxious about maths, showing them practical ways to improve while keeping explanations simple and relatable.

Clear, patient communicator with real one-on-one experience

Through several years in fast-paced, people-focused roles, Poppy has refined her ability to explain things clearly to all kinds of personalities, stay calm under pressure, and adapt how she speaks so others feel comfortable asking questions. She brings this to tutoring by checking understanding often, rephrasing explanations, and encouraging students to talk through their thinking. This tutor focuses on building genuine rapport so sessions feel like a safe space to make mistakes, experiment, and gradually grow in confidence.

Structured, methodical approach tailored to each student

Poppy helps students in Maths and English by teaching them how to think, not just what to write or calculate. She models step-by-step problem solving, shows students how to organise their working and study time, and shares the note-taking and revision techniques that helped her achieve consistently strong results across multiple subjects. This tutor adjusts the pace and level of challenge to suit each learner, aiming to turn confusion into small, achievable wins that build lasting skills and independence.
