What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy the one-on-one aspect of tutoring the most, as it allows me to clearly see the impact of my teaching on a student's progress. I find it really rewarding to break down learning into manageable steps and tailor support to each individual. Through my placements, l've worked across whole-class, small group, and individual settings, and I've found that personalised support is where I can make the greatest difference in both understanding and confidence.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My key strengths in tutoring are my patience and ability to identify students' strengths and learning needs, then tailor my support accordingly. Through my placements, l've developed skills in analysing student data, setting targeted goals, and breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. I also prioritise building positive relationships and creating a safe, supportive environment where students feel confident to learn. I bring strong communication, adaptability, and the ability to keep students engaged and motivated.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important thing a tutor does is create a safe, supportive, and trusting learning environment where students feel confident to engage, ask questions, and take risks in their learning. When students feel valued and comfortable, they are more open about their challenges, which allows tutoring to be truly effective. Another important role of a tutor is analysing student data, such as how they approach problems, their responses, and their overall learning progress. This allows the tutor to identify each student's strengths and areas for improvement, and tailor their teaching.

About Ngoc Mai

Specialist primary educator with strong maths focus

Ngoc Mai is completing a Bachelor of Education in Primary and Early Childhood with a specialisation in Mathematics, and has already achieved top results in her graduate teacher assessment. She has taught across early childhood, lower and upper primary, giving her a clear understanding of how maths and English skills develop over time. This tutor enjoys breaking complex ideas into simple, stepbystep explanations, especially in numeracy, and uses clear scaffolding so children feel successful rather than overwhelmed.

Proven onetoone and smallgroup support

Through multiple school placements, this tutor has planned and delivered literacy and numeracy lessons, then followed up with targeted smallgroup and onetoone support. She regularly uses quick checkins and observations to adjust tasks on the spot, so each student works at just the right level of challenge. In a peer support program at university, she helped classmates unpack tricky assessment tasks and organise their study, experience that directly shapes how she guides school students through homework and revision.

Warm, inclusive approach for diverse learners

Ngoc Mai has worked in both kindergarten and childcare settings, using playbased activities to build early literacy, numeracy and social skills, and supporting children with routines and emotional regulation. She brings this calm, nurturing style into tutoring sessions, using visual aids, handson materials and reallife examples to keep lessons engaging. Confident working with culturally and linguistically diverse students and fluent in English and Vietnamese, she builds strong rapport with families and helps each child feel understood and capable.
