Based on my experience, I believe tutoring goes beyond the instructional role to supplement class-room teaching in three ways: Empathic: Face-to-face or personalized tutoring is intended to be remedial in nature. At times, the lack of understanding of some fundamental concepts from the prior years causes difficulty for the student. The tutor should be empathic and attentive to the student to understand his/her weaknesses.
