Most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is to influence the student to become more ambitious and help them learn things quickly and in a more smarter way. Ability to understand each student's calibre and teach according to it in a simpler and friendly…

The most important thing to do for students is to listen and know how they learn. Knowing their capabilities is needed in order to challenge them while making sure they are engaged and interested in what is being taught or reviewed. I have previous experience tutoring 1on1 and in small groups. Currently I am studying a Bachelor of Education…

Understanding the student is the most primary thing. Without understanding the student you can explain him an entire Library and the student will still be an illiterate or at worse develop fear or disinterest in learning. Connection, understanding, acknowledging and tailoring my approach towards each individual who's different from the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand how they learn and ensure the student feels comfortable. A tutor should be the person a student can be open with if they don't understand something without feeling embarrassed or dumb. By understanding how the student learns both the tutor and the student can make the most of the…

Modern History Tutor Elermore Vale, NSW
I believe a tutor is all about being able to be the middle man between teachers and students. They are able to act in a professional manner but also can individually suit the needs of a specific student. In doing this tutors are able to fill in those missing links and hopefully create a sense of confidence in students that they might otherwise…

Inside WickhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised division facts and explored angles by drawing diagrams to visualise different types.

In Year 9, Liam reviewed financial mathematics concepts such as simple and compound interest alongside algebraic equations in preparation for upcoming exams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Zoe tackled the quadratic formula and methods for completing the square, focusing on how these apply to solving quadratic equations from recent assignments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in financial maths relied heavily on formulas, plugging in numbers without understanding the context or reasoning. As one tutor observed, "she enters numbers but doesn't know why a formula works," which led to confusion when faced with unfamiliar question styles.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student's working out was often hard to follow—notes were jumbled and sometimes key steps missing, making it difficult for her to backtrack during revision.

In algebra, another senior student hesitated to attempt harder problems, preferring only familiar processes and skipping questions that appeared complex at first glance.

Recent Achievements

A recent Wickham tutoring session saw a Year 11 student, Danika, complete her homework ahead of time and actively organise questions from class to discuss—something she hadn't done before.

In Year 12, Liz has started confidently explaining her reasoning during challenging financial maths problems, even teaching back solutions to the tutor when there's disagreement—contrasting with her earlier reluctance to speak up.

Meanwhile, Lara in Year 7 is now attempting unfamiliar exam-style questions independently and asks for clarification only after making an honest attempt herself, showing a big shift from her previous habit of waiting for step-by-step guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Francis Xavier's College.
