To help them find and understand the answers themselves, opposed to just being told answers, or given formulas without proper explanation. This helps them not only understand there answers but also question answers they believe to be incorrect. I have good communication skills and I'm very patient. I also feel that my enjoyment for these subjects…

Inside WoodrisingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tiffany completed a maths skills assessment and then practised volume and capacity problems for cubes and prisms, alongside visual literacy tasks with annotations.

For Year 9, Lachlan focused on financial mathematics by calculating percentages, gross and net pay, as well as exploring wages and salaries using real-world examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through the structure of essay writing in English before tackling advanced financial maths concepts including different types of income and salary calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to keep track of unit places when working with larger numbers, leading to confusion during multi-step arithmetic; as one tutor noted, "he sometimes forgot that he took away a place for a number."

In Year 11 Chemistry, review sessions revealed hesitation in using feedback and revising reaction equations independently.

For a Year 12 student preparing for HSC trials, delayed start times and inconsistent exam revision meant "results fell below expectations" after neglecting deeper practice with past questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated to attempt new times tables without reassurance, slowing progress on multiplication foundations.

Recent Achievements

One Woodrising tutor noted that a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when she didn't understand maths concepts is now openly asking questions as soon as something isn't clear, which has helped her grasp tricky topics like indices much more quickly.

Another high schooler recently made a breakthrough in interpreting worded problems: after previously missing key details, he now highlights variables independently and works through multi-step questions with minimal prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who struggled with shape names at first was excited to confidently name all the main 3D shapes without any hints by the end of their session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Speers Point Library, milyaba—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Paul's Catholic College.
