I think the most important things for a tutor is to make sure the student knows how there education will be valuable for adulthood. Also for tutors to be able to adapt for there students needs and learning styles, and also make sure the lessons are a mixture of tutors teaching and students asking and answering questions. I think I am reliable,…

A tutor , much like a teacher , should not only help to suppllicate the teachings that one receives in school , but also to establish a relationship with the student to help them learn the basic etiquttes of life and also to provide them a new perspective of life ,for which they may not be able to comprehend at this time. A tutor should also…

Most important role where a tutor plays is that a student must not feel hesitant to ask anything and they must rely on their tutor about their mental health, their academic health, and in any case scenario, if they want help, they can reach out to the tutor as they feel most comfortable and supported from them. My strength would be my patience and…

The most important things I believe a tutor can do for a student is making the subject material accessible and understandable for them. A good tutor can help a student clear away the misunderstandings and help a student find their way through learning where they struggled before. I'm very calm and understanding when it comes to figuring out my…

Inside AscotTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lily focused on ratios and dividing with decimals, also practicing worded ratio problems from her textbook.

For Year 9, Lola worked through algebraic expressions and simultaneous equations, including strategies for adding and subtracting with negative numbers.

In Year 11, Ava tackled sketching parabolas by examining how coefficients affect their shape and applied these concepts using software to estimate real-life structures.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often completed algebra questions in cramped, unstructured layouts, leading to confusion and errors; as a tutor observed, "she sometimes tends to do her working out in a cramped space and loses her train of thoughts causing her to make mistakes."

In Year 12 Accounting, small calculation errors crept in when practice with income statements wasn't followed up by revisiting feedback or reviewing past work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student hesitated to ask questions when unsure—leaving misunderstandings unaddressed until the next lesson and slowing progress on topics like negative numbers.

Recent Achievements

One Ascot tutor recently saw a Year 11 student move from a D to a B on their latest assessment, after weeks of showing less resistance and even adding their own input when solving questions—previously, they would avoid engaging at all.

In another session, a high schooler who used to hesitate now independently completed almost an entire maths assignment without asking for help, bringing in techniques remembered from earlier lessons.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised her tutor by doing all her homework exactly as instructed and getting most answers right—a first for her this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayswater Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Belmont Primary School.
