As a student who was not born with a gift, I've been looking for different ways to improve my academic performance, and to find the most suitable method for myself to study. As a result, I am aware of the significance of a suitable study method. Other than teaching the content of the textbook, I would be more than happy to assist students in…

The tutor should just not stick to the knowledge that is available in the textbooks but should make learning a fun experience for the students by giving relevant examples . Learning becomes more easier when the students are involved in the process. The session must be interactive. I am a active listener and communicator. I feel that every student…

Supporting them through thick and thin and making sure they can understand topics and apply them to problems not limited to books but to other subjects too. A simple example would be application of basic and complext algebra throughout econ, accounting and finance. Also making sure that a student can approach an examination a certain way, that…

One of the most important roles of a tutor is to provide students with a framework of learning techniques and methods that will remain applicable in future areas of study. A tutor should also foster a love or appreciation of learning through active engagement with their pupils; this is by far the most important thing a tutor can do for a student.…

In my opinion, tutors can help students in setting goals and achieve them from time to time. As a leader, they need to implement situational leadership and try to incorporate different teaching methods for different kinds of students. My strengths would basically include my communication skills and assertiveness with the students. In addition, I…

A tutor needs to be patient when tutoring a student especially in subjects like mathematics and physics since those subjects require the most assumed knowledge in high school than any other subject, students normally have trouble recollecting previous works. The important thing is to develop the student's ability to independently study. It is like that proverb 'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.' There are going to be times where the student will find themselves in a position with an urgent question regarding their assignment which is…

Inside Dudley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lily focused on solving algebraic equations and revising fraction rules, including converting fractions into decimals using long division.

In Year 9, Jacob practised expanding brackets and worked through difference of two squares problems with step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sienna tackled factorisation and quadratic trinomials, applying these skills to financial problem scenarios to build confidence ahead of her assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 maths, a student often relied on her notes during exercises but didn't revisit them later, which meant she kept making the same sign mistakes in algebra despite reminders—she made the same mistake regarding 'sign changing' very often even with notes available.

For a Year 10 test, another student didn't let the tutor know ahead of time, missing out on tailored preparation and feeling less confident in worded problems.

In primary years, one student forgot to do her homework entirely for a shapes task, leading to confusion when new formulas appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Dudley Park tutor recently noticed a big shift in Athena, a high school student who used to need reminders but now actively takes notes and solves algebraic problems on her own—she even scored 87% on her latest test.

Another high schooler, Constanza, previously hesitated to ask questions but has started posting thoughtful queries during sessions and now finishes homework independently by applying strategies from previous lessons.

In Year 4, Alyse was initially unsure with new maths topics, but after just one session she applied the taught formula correctly and solved all the given worded problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
