I believe a tutor should always provide a safe learning environment for the students. They should always impart knowledge, skills and also good values for their students. Tutors should always create lesson plans to ensure they address a diversity of students through their teaching as the learning capacities of students can be diverse due to a…

Leave them with a proper process with answering questions under time pressure. Make learning if not enjoyable at least tolerable, as learning new things is much harder if you don’t have any interest in it. Make your teaching digestible for the student depending on their level of understanding - not too easy not too hard. Breaking down complex…

I believe that every child is unique. But as they grow older, their creative confidence is lost. Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be absolutely encouraging in whatever the student wants to achieve in anything they are learning. It's important because that strongly affects the students drive and perseverance in mastering a certain subject. The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

Not only providing valuable insights into learning techniques and skillsets constructed from personal experience, but also giving students the necessary ingredients for building their own toolset with guidance and advice. I believe be able to help students in study is one important thing. However helping them emotionally and in life could be essential for them. As they might have had a bad day at school or didn’t get good marks in exams. There’s few things I believe that’s more important than study. I believe I can help kids understanding a concept during…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and understand. Students who are strugglings with certain subjects might not actually be bad at the subjects but rather they might not have had proper guidance from their teachers or they do not have a strong foundation, or they are just not studying in the right method. Each…

Taking their time to explain a method or topic properly in a way that the students understand. I think this is important because if the students don't clearly understand the process in which they need to apply it, then the method isn't useful. I believe every student has the potential to become their best self. In addition to providing emotional support, I believe tutors should actively support students' dreams by helping them set clear and achievable goals. For example, the SMART technique allows students to track their progress, which promotes independence and self-directed learning.…

Inside FootscrayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia focused on solving problems involving the volume of cylinders and explored area and circumference of circles, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

In Year 8, Liam practiced linear relationships by plotting equations on coordinate grids and worked through questions on finding equations of lines.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava reviewed angle types—such as complementary and supplementary angles—and estimated degrees using protractors for hands-on learning.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 trigonometry, a student hesitated to attempt challenging problems, focusing mainly on familiar examples—this limited exposure to multi-step scenarios.

For a Year 3 multiplication task, over-reliance on counting rather than recalling tables slowed progress and led to errors ("Need to learn by heart the multiplication table").

In Year 10 data evaluation, incomplete practice with interpreting graphs meant patterns were sometimes missed.

During Year 8 decimal work, one tutor noted: "Need to be more careful while counting the number to put the decimal point and index number." These process gaps often left some questions unanswered or concepts only partly grasped in-session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Footscray noticed a big shift with one high school student who, after struggling to estimate angles without tools, now confidently judges them by eye and checks his work independently.

Another Year 9 student who used to hesitate when stuck on problems has started raising questions mid-session and fixing mistakes right away, instead of waiting for hints.

Meanwhile, a younger student finally cleared up confusion about range and median—after weeks of guessing, he now explains the difference out loud before solving each problem.

Last week, one finished all his homework in just 20 minutes and asked for extra exercises.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Barkly Campus.
