Helping them in a way that allows them to complete questions on their own, but also learn from the tutor. Ie, giving indicators on whether they are going right or wrong in a question and making them figure out where they messed up. My strengths as a tutor is being able to explain a concept really simply and getting the basic down so that it is…

The most important things for a tutor is to be a source of support that they can reach out to, not only in the specific subject that they're tutoring, but also studying and school life in general. I'm skilled at breaking down larger, complex ideas and explaining small details and nuances but then being able to link it all back to over-arching…

I believe it is vital that a student feels as though they have accomplished something at the end of each session and that there is a sense of progression felt for the student after each session. A tutor should be able to make the student work at a comfortable pace that does not stress them out or make them feel uncomfortable. Lastly, I believe a…

To motivate and inspire them to work their hardest and perservere with their difficult subjects even when they are struggling - also to teach each student in a specific way that works individually for them (I think it is important to treat every student differently so as to be most effective) Strenghts would include my patience and creativity in…

It will most definetely be making the primary/high school experience more enjoyable by valuing the importance of studying not soley imporving ones grades. In the short term, it is important to help the student develop an understanding of the ideas behind a topic, rather than just knowing the content. Over the long term, helping the student form an effective study method of their own as well as developing good study habits will be critical to their later success. Aside from my experience and…

Moreover being available to answer doubts or questions over text/Gmail is essential to help ease the student's worries…

As the saying goes, teach a man to fish and he will be able to support himself for a lifetime. A tutor’s most important role is to be able to do that for a student’s learning while also encouraging them to have fun and instill a sense of curiosity that will extend their learning to beyond the classroom. My belief in tutoring is that I always…

Inside North TurramurraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lucas practised simple division and tackled worded problems to strengthen his foundational numeracy.

For Year 11, Sophia focused on normal distribution and worked through her areas of difficulty using trial HSC exam papers.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James reviewed the balance of payments, covering both current and capital accounts, and explored how exchange rates are affected by demand and supply for the Australian dollar, using past HSC short-answer questions for practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student working on calculus struggled to set out homework clearly, which made it difficult to identify where his thinking broke down—"his understanding of calculus & his homework setting out" was a tutor's observation.

In Year 11 Economics, one student often skipped writing formulas for opportunity cost and labour force participation rate, so errors crept in unnoticed when revising calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student avoided showing division steps in maths problems; as the tutor noted, "divisions and reading questions" required extra attention because missing working led to repeated confusion over basic procedures.

Recent Achievements

One North Turramurra tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 12 student who, after struggling to tell apart the different balance of payments accounts in economics, now accurately distinguishes between them and explains what drives deficits or surpluses.

In Year 11 maths, another student had trouble with fractions on a previous test but recently solved fraction problems independently, showing the extra practice paid off.

Meanwhile, a primary school student who used to rush through questions has started pausing to read each one carefully before answering—a noticeable change in approach during recent sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Ives Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Turramurra North Public School.
