I believe that creating an environment where a student feels confident is one of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. By encouraging questions and celebrating progress, even small improvements, also helps students stay motivated and engaged. My strengths as a tutor are my ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt my teaching…

The most significant things that a tutor can do for a student is having a friendly relationship, being adaptive, patient and communicating clearly and concisely. A good tutor knows how to encourage their student to keep pushing and doing their best but a best tutor knows how to adapt to something a student cannot do and then transform those…

I believe a tutor should help prepare and encourage students to be more competitive in their school exams, rather than just simply re teach what they learn. A tutor is crucial to helping a student unlock their full potential in their studies, by not only preparing them well ahead, but by also teaching them how to study and learn themselves. I can…

Most important things a tutor can do are personalizing the learning, maximise students strength in a variety of topics, sharing their own HSC experiences which cures the anxiety of the student and most of all being patient with the student and explaining it to him as many times as he asks. I personally think patience is the most important as even…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is listen. This is crucial as it allows the tutor to know how the student is struggling and with what part in order to better teach them. I feel my greatest strengths as a tutor is my large skill set to teach students in different ways according to what best suits them. This has been developed…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be understanding and patient. I was a student just a few weeks ago and it was extremely stressful to learn so much knowledge. Having an understanding and patient teacher gives students freedom and reliance as they can always consult them whenever in need. This gives students a peace of mind…

Inside PlumptonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Georgia focused on HSC-style trigonometry questions and revising her recent exam paper, targeting past mistakes.

For Year 11, Zara worked through differentiation using first principles as well as algebraic equations from her school maths assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Daniel practised probability questions from previous HSC papers and explored applications of trigonometry in bearings problems, often using real-world scenarios to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

Several process-related challenges were observed across different year levels.

In Year 9, one student left homework incomplete for over two weeks, causing her to forget recently taught algebra skills; as the tutor noted, "this was shown through the lesson today."

A Year 11 student's exam performance suffered due to poor time management—he rushed only near the end, missing easy marks earlier.

In Year 7 mathematics, written work often lacked clear layout and full working out, especially on multi-mark problems, making it hard to spot where understanding broke down.

When assignments or practice were delayed or skipped, progress slowed and confidence dipped.

Recent Achievements

A Plumpton tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student, Ryan, who used to leave tricky HSC-style questions blank, now attempts every problem and explains his reasoning out loud—even when unsure.

In Year 9 maths, Ali has started tackling differentiation proofs with less hesitation, remembering key identities without needing reminders like before.

Meanwhile, Shay in Year 5 managed the extension section of her homework with minimal help after previously struggling to stay focused; she finished all tasks without distraction and got nearly every answer right on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Plumpton Public School.
