I think the most important things a tutor can do are explain concepts clearly, create a supportive learning environment, and help the student become more independent over time. I think my strengths as a tutor are patience, clear communication, and the ability to adjust my teaching style to suit different students. I try to make difficult ideas…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what they need and make sure to push them only to their highest point of productivity. Every student has different goals and learns in a different way so it is the responsibility of the tutor to cater to those needs. I am able to foster and maintain strong connections with…

A tutor can almost shape a student’s future. There can be concepts that a student may be shy to ask their teacher, but I want to be the tutor for them that they can transparently ask their tiniest doubts and absorb the knowledge in the best way possible. I am the eldest child in my family which has made me naturally good with kids. I believe…

I believe that a tutor should support the student and offer a number of different viewpoints and learning techniques suited to the individual. I also believe that a tutor should be patient, as learning takes time and should foster a fun and comfortable learning environment as well as motivating the student. I believe that encouraging the creation of ideas and allowing students to assemble their own ideas and thoughts is a good way to promote creativity. I challenge my students to be free-thinkers and am always open to suggestions from them. Uniqueness and originality are rewarded. Hence, these attributes will allow them to be confident and well…

Learn with the student. I am striving to be a better person each day, with it, comes humility. I believe that if you come to the student appearing human and able to make mistakes (as I am not a robot), the student will understand that I am not intimidating nor a machine, but rather human just like they are. Building a strong and humane connection…

Guide the student and not give them the answer straight away. Let them develop the critical thinking needed for each type of problem. This is especially important in programming. Inside RamsgateTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Max worked on expanding and simplifying algebraic equations, as well as revising for an upcoming English speech.

For Year 9, Olivia focused on multiplying and dividing algebraic expressions and refining TEEL paragraph writing for Romeo and Juliet.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael practised solving trigonometric function problems (sine, cosine, tangent) with missing values and applied these skills to real-world worded questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student repeatedly arrived without completed homework or revision, so sessions had to revisit old material rather than progress—"I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week," a tutor noted.

In Year 11, a different student's written algebra was disorganised; steps were missed or left unwritten, which made it hard to spot errors in exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a primary student misplaced homework sheets and wrote on scraps instead of using the booklet provided, leading to forgotten tasks and incomplete spelling practice by the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ramsgate noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with worded exam questions is now breaking them down more independently, using her own strategies to make sense of tricky language.

Another high schooler, after initially submitting very short TEEL paragraphs, recently wrote a much longer response and managed to edit it herself without prompting.

Meanwhile, one primary student—who used to guess spelling test answers—has started quietly sounding out each word before writing and completed last week's list with no mistakes for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ramsgate Public School.
