I consider above all listening to the student and what they do and don't understand to be most important, in order so that I as a tutor can direct my attention and teaching where it is needed most. In terms of long-term goals however, I consider instilling the student with diligence, resilience and a mentality to succeed in the future to be the…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

Modern History Tutor Burwood, NSW
As a tutor cannot take exams or do homework for the student, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to have faith in the student's ability and assist the student in every way possible to ensure that the student has faith in their own ability to achieve their goals. Patience, passion and empathy. Patience as it takes time to…

Instill a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject. Those are the foundations upon which the rest is built. Strengths: I love kids and I love maths. I believe I'm quite adaptable and am happy to modify how I teach depending on the learning style of the student. Weaknesses: As of yet I still don't have much experience, particularly in…

Modern History Tutor Chippendale, NSW
The most important thing in my opinion is to not only be able to guide students to the correct answer, but also make them feel accomplished and enjoy the process of knowing nothing to all the knowledge they need in school. At the same time, a tutor have to be respectful at all times. Some of my strengths as a tutor are that I am great with…

One of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, is not only make the subject fun and easier to understand but to make the student believe in himself/herself. Most of the students, do not feel very confident in their own understanding of the subject and hesitate to participate in class discussions. I believe by making the student…

The fun part of my job is getting to know my students and getting to understand them. As a tutor and mentor it is our job to make sure our students achieves the highest grade possible, but we must remember. It is also our duty to nurture and guide them on the right path into their future. We must keep in mind each students have their own struggles…

Modern History Tutor Darling Point, NSW
I think the most important things are: 1. Try to give the student confidence in their ability. 2. Try to provide clear and concise explanations that lead to understanding 3. Try to simplify complex subjects 4. Help the student to develop a strong work ethic I am very patient and I understand the difficulty faced by some students. I try to…

Local Reviews

First tutor didn't really suit our needs but this was resolved very quickly and I am now very happy with how things are progressing. If anything, there is probably a little too much communication via email. A monthly newsletter would be better than a series of single subjects as I tend to delete without reading them if I get too many.

Inside RiverviewTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student James practised division strategies and worked on adding and subtracting decimals in money problems.

In Year 10, Sarah revised coordinate geometry with a focus on distance and midpoint calculations, then tackled function transformations using graph sketches.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben completed past paper questions involving sequences and series, as well as probability scenarios requiring multi-step reasoning.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student lost nearly half their marks in a major exam due to repeated "silly errors"—often tied to negative signs and missing steps—despite knowing the underlying concepts. As one tutor observed, "almost 40 out of 80 marks lost due to silly errors."

In Year 7, trouble choosing between operations (addition vs. subtraction) slowed progress on worded problems and led to hesitation when faced with multi-step calculations.

Meanwhile, in primary years, short-term memory lapses with times tables (especially 6–8) meant relying on reference charts instead of mental recall during timed drills, adding pressure mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Riverview tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to make frequent minus sign mistakes in calculus now double-checking his work and catching those slips before finishing.

In Year 8, a student who'd struggled with curve sketching managed to re-apply their understanding of transformations to tackle tougher questions with less hesitation than last month.

Meanwhile, one primary student who could only recall some times tables now completes a full 10x10 grid in under ten minutes—twice as fast as just a few weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lane Cove Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Saint Ignatius' College, The Regis Campus.
