Inside Shenton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jack worked on converting between proper and improper fractions with denominators of 10, 100, and 1000, as well as placing decimals accurately on a number line.

In Year 8, Emily revised integers and negative numbers alongside substituting values into simple algebraic expressions.

For Year 9, Sam focused on factorisation techniques and applying the first three index laws to simplify algebraic terms.

Recent Challenges

Jacob did not attempt the homework set for him last lesson, especially in advanced algebra and index laws, which limited progress with new topics.

In Year 10 Physics, skipping written diagrams made abstract problems harder to visualise and led to confusion when tackling free body questions.

For a Year 6 learner, not writing out working for fraction and subtraction tasks meant errors went unnoticed and wasted time retracing steps.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student's messy approach to telling time on clock faces made it difficult to spot where understanding broke down during practice.

Recent Achievements

One Shenton Park tutor recently noticed a big shift with Jacob in Year 10 Maths: after struggling to remember each step, he started writing out his full working for index law problems, which helped him finish homework faster and more accurately than before.

A senior student who previously hesitated to sketch graphs can now confidently draw derivatives and explain how they relate to the original function—something that used to cause confusion.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Pria has become much more proactive about telling her tutor which maths topics she finds tricky instead of guessing or staying quiet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosalie Primary School.
