Ancient History Tutor Herston, QLD
The most important thing a tutor can do is be there for their student, and understand the way that they learn. Understanding where their challenges are and where their strengths are. Understanding what teaching style and environment works for their student and adapting their sessions to suit. It is also important to not judge them based on their…

One of the most important things tutors can do for their students is aid in building confidence in their work. This is achieved through patience and catered academic support. I am currently completing a secondary education degree with majors in math and history and hope to benefit students with this…

I believe that if a tutor is kind, patient and shows respect, they will see greater results with their students. In order for effective learning, it is paramount to create a distraction-free, positive environment, and prepare well-thought out lessons ahead of time. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, I think that if a tutor is ready to motivate,…

I believe that a tutor plays an incredible different role to the classroom teacher. Being a role that has one-on-one interaction with a student, a tutor's most important thing is to focus their practice and method to the individual characteristics of the student. An example of this could be having activities with high intensity and movement for…

First and foremost I think that is having patience. People do not all learn in the same way and as I mentioned before, when teaching somebody, half the job is just figuring out the best way to frame it, something which requires patience and perseverance. What is also important as a tutor is not just telling students what they need to know, but…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

Ancient History Tutor Kalinga, QLD
If a tutor can maintain a professional friendship with a student while focusing on the learning or task at hand, then the student is much more likely to share the enthusiasm with the tutor. I am enthusiastic about learning and communicating my knowledge with others. I am patient and able to adapt to different learning styles. Furthermore, I…

Ancient History Tutor Annerley, QLD
I think that if a tutor can initially convince their student why what they’re studying is important, then the relationship will be much more amicable. I also think it’s important that we make sure they’re really understanding key concepts, rather than making it seem like they do to avoid embarrassment around or working harder, I have seen…

Inside TeneriffeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily worked through adding, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as converting between decimals and fractions for fluency.

In Year 10, Zoe focused on solving compound interest problems and practiced using the power law to simplify indices.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jack revised calculus skills including finding derivatives of exponential functions with the chain rule and applied these methods to solve optimisation questions involving maximum and minimum values.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a recurring issue for both Year 8 and Year 11 students, with "amount of homework done due to assignments is still lacking," leading to gaps in practice—especially in algebra and statistics.

In a Year 10 English assignment, referencing errors and overloaded body paragraphs signaled difficulty organizing ideas under time pressure.

A Year 12 student working on calculus repeatedly hesitated to start complex problems: "did not know where to start… need to push for more engagement."

One tutor noted a Year 9 student's tendency to avoid writing out steps in logarithms, which meant calculation slips were hard to trace later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Teneriffe noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to show her reasoning for problem-solving questions is now confidently writing out her approach, moving beyond just thinking through the steps silently.

In another high school session, a student who struggled with identifying errors during revision began recognising when to apply the chain rule while working through sin and cos calculations—something that had tripped them up before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often made mistakes with fractions started independently applying addition and multiplication of fractions correctly during their last session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as New Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like New Farm State School.
