Make learning fun along with being productive. I think presenting challenges to students will motivate them to learn better and faster. Conveying information in a dignified yet an entertaining way for students to pay attention along with having interest to learn their respective…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence while helping them understand the subject. When a student feels supported and encouraged, they become more willing to ask questions, take risks, and engage with the material. I believe that a tutor should not only explain concepts clearly but also create a…

To teach them in a way that they are equipped with the knowledge at a good pace for them, while also remaining up to date or a head of schedule. This allows them to have things mastered before their classes, allowing them to spend that time in the most effective way they see fit. My strengths as a tutor are the ability to lead a student to an…

Allow them to reach their goals, and to lead them to overall success in other parts of education/life. Similarily find creative and different approaches for the individual to reach their given goals, as everybody learns in different ways. I believe my strengths as a tutor would be my communication. I believe that through past experiences I have…

A tutor should be patient, allowing students to build confidence in answering things alone and creating a basis for independent learning. They should also create a kind, open environment that adapts to all students needs. I am someone who struggled in certain aspects of school life so I had to adapt the information given to me in order to absorb…

Inside WaterwaysTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ethan practised writing numbers in expanded form and solved digit combination challenge questions that required using each digit only once.

For Year 10, Sarah worked on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and was introduced to the discriminant, applying these concepts directly to her schoolwork.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James focused on finding equations of lines given a gradient and a point, then continued assigned work on linear relations using his Easter homework sheet.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student frequently avoided writing out algebra steps, preferring to do calculations mentally—this made it hard to catch sign errors and led to confusion when checking answers ("he had the habit of trying to do all the steps in his head before answering").

In a Year 11 Physics session, equations from electromagnetism were only vaguely recalled unless prompted, as no organized summary or reference list was maintained.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student with creative story ideas found transferring thoughts onto paper challenging; great verbal detail vanished when faced with the blank page. Each instance meant time spent retracing rather than progressing.

Recent Achievements

One Waterways tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help now confidently requesting clarification on using the calculator's shift function for inverse trigonometry—he then completed angle problems independently.

In Year 8, a student who used to guess at comprehension answers began searching for "hints" within texts and solved worded maths questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 4, once distracted during spelling activities, managed to write each target word three times as directed and sorted them into categories with much more focus than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aspendale Gardens Primary School.
