I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build a student's confidence, provide clear guidance, and adapt their teaching to suit the student's learning style and needs. A tutor may have strong subject knowledge, but if they cannot explain concepts in a way the students understand, the learning will not be effective. Creating a…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. To be able to adapt their teaching style to better suit the student. To…

A good tutor is able to help a student consolidate their knowledge and improve their skills in areas they are lacking so that they are able to perform to the best of their ability. My strengths are a strong understanding of the material I teach, a friendly approach, good communication skills and a strong belief that I can help my students achieve…

The tutor can help a student to build confidence as well as help pupil in the study by making them practice on their weak points, as a teacher never judge students weakness but helps them to improve it. I believe that tutor and student relationship to be more friendly and believe that if concepts are strong of a student so they can go a long way.…

I strongly believe that a tutor's role is to build their students' confidence in taking control of their learning. This could be by encouraging them to approach difficult tasks or helping them design their study schedule. My goal is to become a resource for my students rather than a teacher and my overall purpose is to leave students in a better…

Giving the student the skills and ability to actively learn and be passionate in academic pursuits without the necessary external help of tutoring so they can give their all with academics and have a good time doing it. I am empathetic and open-minded when talking and discussing about scientific and mathematical subject matters as well as…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create the passion in that subject and together overcome any existing difficulty the student is facing. Given my previous experience with the Maths tutors, I strongly believe that when one understands their students well enough, the subject can become more enjoyable and students…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for their student is to ensure that under any circumstances they will be able to understand and perform as they have been taught. The wish to see them grow and willing to try different ways to teach the students is a strength i believe i have. I believe that i will be able to understand their efforts…

Inside WestmeadowsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Adam explored probability and fractions from Chapter 7, working through practical problems to strengthen understanding.

Year 10 student Chloe revised completing the square and practiced sketching quadratic graphs, focusing on how changes in equations affect their shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily tackled language analysis by annotating an article for persuasive techniques and then practiced writing her own analysis using those features.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, a student left revision too late and struggled to recall key quotes for No Sugar, making it difficult to build essay paragraphs ("did not know key aspects of the texts").

In another senior class, homework was incomplete—time meant for learning persuasive techniques was lost.

A Year 9 student's essay work stalled when their book was left at school; this also limited reading over the week.

In primary maths, one student continued to rely on counting fingers instead of recalling multiplication facts quickly, slowing progress in division tasks. Moments like these lead to gaps that are hard to bridge mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Westmeadows tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, started actively seeking clarification on tricky vocabulary during lessons and pinpointed exactly which exam areas needed work.

Another high schooler had struggled to link quotes between novels, but this week managed to connect key passages across two texts and explain how they fit major themes—something she'd never attempted before.

Meanwhile, a younger student grew visibly more relaxed as the session went on, ending by volunteering answers aloud after starting out quiet and reserved.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hume Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Westmeadows Primary School.
