I believe a tutor’s most important role is helping students recognise their potential and believe in their own abilities. My goal is to support and guide them so they can achieve their best and seeing a student feel proud of the effort they’ve put in is incredibly meaningful to me. Rather than just covering content, I focus on building…

The most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are dependability, a connection, and academic coaching. I am highly organised. I always take notes and use a series of tools to help myself stay on top of deadlines. I like to keep a clean workspace and create action plans for different situations which helps increase…

Online Tutor The Ponds, NSW
It's the capacity to come up with new approaches to assist your kids in learning. Students learn in different ways and at varying speeds. As a student, I expect my teachers to explain things in a way that I can grasp. Unlike my university instructors, who simply read the slides and call it a class. NO! I don't teach that manner, and I don't…

Shrikar mixes passion, charisma and a really good understand of the syllabus. Highly recommend his tutoring. Over a few months I've gone from the bottom of the class to the top of the class

Inside WhalanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Sidney worked on recognising and ordering three-digit numbers, skip counting by twos, threes, and fives using number charts, and identifying the value of Australian coins through hands-on money activities.

Year 10 student Jessica tackled simplifying surds and converting between index form and surd form, then expanded her skills to include rationalising denominators in algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ryan focused on consumer arithmetic—specifically calculating compound interest and monthly repayments—as well as applying formulas for simple interest in real-world contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student sometimes rushed into answering maths questions before fully reading instructions, such as confusing the minute hand position when telling time or mixing up number sequences.

As one tutor put it, "she was eager to step in and get the answer, but didn't always check what the question wanted."

In senior years, a Year 11 student repeatedly relied on practicing familiar surds problems instead of tackling harder exam-style questions; this led to less confidence with unfamiliar formats during revision.

When content wasn't fully reviewed or practiced, knowledge gaps lingered right before tests.

Recent Achievements

One Whalan tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck simplifying surds; now, after some targeted practice, she can convert between surd and power form and even rationalise denominators without prompting.

Another high school student, previously hesitant with expanding brackets, surprised the tutor by gaining speed and choosing more challenging examples on her own.

Meanwhile, Sidney in Year 2 moved from needing counting charts for decade counting to confidently spotting number patterns solo within just one session—she even tackled Stage 2 test questions that were originally planned for older students.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Madang Avenue Public School.
