I think it would be acknowledging the difficulty in subjects to know that they aren't alone with their difficulties and also being able to explain to them the content of their subjects in new ways that makes sense to them. And also make them feel confident in their abilities as well as teaching them a new confidence of autonomy when it comes to…

Firstly to help them understand something that they may be scared or ashamed of not knowing. Also, to help teach special small techniques to quicken solutions. Help them reach their full potential without doing all the work for them; I think it is important to let them do some hard work now and again so they can appreciate it more when they are congratulated for their success, and so that they are not 'coddled' into thinking other people will do all their work for them. Some of my strengths would…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is basically giving them the ability to simply understand their work, as this understanding forms the foundation of what they need to know and without this understanding they would not be able to pus themselves forward into learner their work on a broader perspective. I think a tutor can give a student confidence, that a student doesn't need to be intimidated by a STEM class. The general attitude that these subject are 'too hard' or that a student 'will never use these skills again' sets up bright students for failure before they even set foot in a classroom. The most important thing a tutor can do is boost a…

According to me, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is wake up their curiosity. Getting good grades are important, but equally important is to make sure that the student is enjoying and understanding the subject being taught. As this helps make the student pursue the subjects further. These are the future of the humanity,…

The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. To be able to enable to student to think, and answer hard questions when all else has failed. Inside WishartTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Grace worked through simplifying algebraic fractions and practiced circumference and area calculations, also touching on unit conversions.

In Year 11, Amelia focused on graphs and networks problem sets from Unit 4, as well as finance topics like reducing balance loans and annuities using her textbook and class materials.

For Year 12 Mathematical Methods, Patrick set up a revision plan for upcoming exams, reviewing differentiation techniques such as chain, product, and quotient rules alongside sample exam questions in chemistry and physics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student's over-reliance on calculator shortcuts meant errors in index laws and logarithmic functions went unchecked—"needed more practice identifying which formula to use," noted the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 assignment was delayed as the student struggled with structuring their PSMT report, leading to last-minute edits and confusion about required components.

For a Year 4 learner, messy written work in long division and two-digit multiplication made it hard to check answers or spot mistakes; as observed, "work needed on spelling and handwriting" directly impacted clarity.

In each case, these process habits created extra hurdles when tackling new material.

Recent Achievements

One Wishart tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after struggling to clarify her chemistry report's purpose, took the lead in restructuring paragraphs and articulating her own ideas clearly.

A Year 12 student recently showed real initiative by finishing comprehensive outlines independently for each section of their science report—something they'd hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 3 now counts backwards from 10 unprompted and confidently sounds out tricky words instead of waiting for help. The session wrapped up with her reading out every number block unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mount Gravatt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mansfield State High School.
