Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Being a friend and caring about every student, realising their talent and the ways they…

Understanding the best way to teach a particular student is the most important thing a biology tutor can do; to shape their teaching methods into something effective and efficient. Throughout my years in high school, I was the go to person if someone needed help with school work. This gave me a lot of experience in tutoring across all year levels…

The most important things a biology tutor can do for a student are to build strong conceptual understanding, develop effective problem-solving strategies, and foster confidence in their abilities. A tutor should also identify individual learning gaps, adapt teaching methods to suit the student’s learning style, and provide structured guidance…

A tutor should understand a student's struggle and achievements, and be able to bring out the fun in studying to help them in their academic struggles. I encourage and motivate students to excel and set a foundation for future studies, as well as providing an entertaining and educational environment suitable for each student. As a current student…

I think the most important thing is that students are able to recall information because they actually understand what they are being taught and not memorizing concepts just for the sake of it. By doing this, they will automatically improve and maintain good grades. I think my strength is being a student where I can understand the struggles that…

A tutor should be someone who doesn't just blabber information, but a person who ensures they deliver knowledge in a way a student can comprehend easily! But most importantly, the tutor should always make sure the student has understood the concept, always! Being able to adjust your teaching services to cater all types of students, with different…

One of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is offer an environment where they can comfortably learn and raise any concerns or questions they might have. This comes from building a good relationship with the student, which often not many tutors do, making the student's learning ineffective. Offering an organised and well…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. High school can be a really stressful period for students, not only in the immense pressure that students are under but also with the dramatic shifts their…

Some of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is ensuring that the student knows the content that has been taught. Also make sure that you are listening to the student and try to minimise their weaknesses and maximise their strengths. As a tutor, my strengths are being confident and only speaking what I know of. I will…

I find it important for students to know and feel that their individual needs are heard, understood and attended to. It would be most important to follow through all plans, tailored to their needs, with actions that allow the students to realise their progress. By also validating their strengths and identifying their self-limiting beliefs, I…

There a many key things that I believe a biology tutor can do to create a positive impact on their students. I think the most important thing a biology tutor should do is understand the learning pattern and style of the student. Every student learns differently, simply using one method is not enough. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

Resilience after drawbacks. Inside BoroniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia worked through fractions and percentages using real-world examples, then moved on to practising long multiplication and division for improved accuracy.

Year 9 student Liam focused on mastering linear graphing techniques alongside trigonometry basics like SOH CAH TOA, including some bearings problems.

For Year 12, Emily tackled advanced calculus topics such as differentiation (chain, product, and quotient rules) and integrated practice with exam-style questions covering probability distributions and financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to remember and implement area and volume rules, leading to slow progress during revision—"he needed tips on memorising these rules to feel more confident."

In Year 12, a lack of careful checking when solving integration problems resulted in using incorrect numbers and missed marks.

For a Year 8 lesson, one student's written working was often skipped or incomplete in algebra tasks, making it harder to spot errors and correct them quickly.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of mistakes, sometimes leaving questions unfinished after initial setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A Boronia tutor recently noticed a big shift for a Year 12 student who'd struggled with advanced differentiation: after needing lots of guidance last month, she worked through the latest book problems almost entirely on her own, only asking for help with one especially tough question.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, another student who used to freeze up when graphing can now confidently draw and interpret graphs without prompting—last lesson she completed an entire set solo.

For a younger learner, mastering trickier times tables had always been daunting; this week he applied a new strategy independently and finished all his practice questions using it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia K-12 College.
