I think I'm relaxed, fun and easy to talk to. I'm from the United States and have lived internationally for several years, which helps me better understand students…

Passing on knowledge keeping in mind the strength, weaknesses and the time required for the student to grasp the content that is being communicated. Tutors can be a reason to guide the students in the right direction. Sometimes, a student might need a tiny little nudge to get them on track and tutors can be or are the right persons for that. A tutor can be a friend guiding the student in every obstacle they come across. A tutor can also be a role model for the students by creating a long…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the one-on-one attention that is not given to them in schools with large class sizes. Deepti has been tutoring my son in Year 7. Deepti has developed an amazing rapport with my son and has inspired him emensely. His maths results for algebra have improved out of sight since having Deepti tutor him. Deepti is able to engage him and explain the rules and concepts and reinforce them through practice. Having been a teacher myself, I am very impressed with Deepti's skills and this has been reflected in my son's results. In addition his keenness in maths since having Deepti as his tutor is very impressive.

Inside CaulfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lisa worked on probability through coin toss experiments and tree diagrams, plus an introduction to Venn diagrams for visualising outcomes.

In Year 8, Parth tackled coordinate geometry by practising plotting points and finding intersections of lines using graphical methods.

For Year 10, Marcus focused on quadratic equations—using the discriminant, applying the quadratic formula, and completing the square—building problem-solving confidence with step-by-step worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student repeatedly relied on a calculator for simple calculations and missed signs in coordinate geometry when not listing knowns/unknowns. This made it harder to spot mistakes during review.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student arrived without their workbook or preparation notes, leaving them unable to attempt assigned statistics problems.

In Year 5, messy written working on fraction questions meant errors went unnoticed until the end—he guessed answers instead of showing steps, as noted by the tutor.

In each case, rushed or incomplete process habits left gaps that surfaced in class and homework time alike.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caulfield noted that a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly pinpointing mistakes and correcting them during sessions, showing real ownership of her learning.

In Year 11, another student made a breakthrough with finance questions: after struggling with graph-based problems before, he now tackles these independently and even writes clear, detailed answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who once rushed through number pattern tasks has begun breaking down questions step by step, reading each carefully before attempting an answer—finishing all the sequence terms accurately on her own this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caulfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Montessori College - Caulfield South Campus.
