The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to celebrate even the smallest of wins. No matter how slow or hard progress is, it is still progress! Of course it is important to push students, but it is equally important to build their self confidence. One of my strengths is my patience. Thanks to my past experience as a Teacher's…

Impart upon a student not knowledge per se, but rather a desire to expand their own knowledge through self-directed learning. Learning and education should be a lifelong process, not one that ends when an individual completes their primary vocational education. Learning makes us grow and develop and look at things in different ways, and the desire…

I would say the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them grow as individuals, and help them find a love for learning - a strong passion for the academic studies. A tutor needs to also serve as a good role model for the students, and be a person the student can trust to help them improve their grades. I would say my…

As a tutor, it's very important to understand the pace at which a student learns and to accustom themselves by providing a safe and informative learning space for the student. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own ability to learn…

I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. I was fortunate enough to know this tactic…

The power of being non-judgmental. A tutor must understand that every student has different learning capabilities and focus more on students that find it difficult to grasp concepts without belittling them. The important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel more confident about their abilities and knowledge. The more they can back them-self, the more they can be composed in a test environment, the better they perform in test conditions, the better their marks. Inside CrawleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tanisha focused on trigonometric functions, specifically working through where and why she finds these challenging.

In Year 10, Chloe prepared for an upcoming Matrices test by tackling matrix operations and understanding adjacency matrices as used in different graph types.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Sofia practised addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers along with revision of multiplication tables for improved number fluency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often avoided writing out steps when tackling equations, preferring to "solve in his mind"—this led to confusion and errors, especially as problems became more complex.

In Year 11 English, another student struggled with essay planning and left arguments underdeveloped; a tutor noted, "he needs more practice in forming concise points which support his argument."

Meanwhile, in Year 6 Maths, a student was quick to use the calculator before attempting questions independently. These habits resulted in lost marks or incomplete understanding during assessments, causing visible frustration and dented confidence mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Crawley tutor recently saw Chloe, a high school student, start making her own summary notes during lessons—she'd previously relied only on verbal explanations, but now refers back to her written notes when tackling practice problems in Matrices.

In another session, Gabriel, also in high school, showed a shift by recalling formulas for area and volume from memory without prompts; earlier sessions had him frequently pausing to check or ask for reminders.

Meanwhile, Flynn (Year 6) moved from needing step-by-step help with rearranging equations to working through hypotenuse problems independently after just a few guided examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
