I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be consistent. The tutor needs to be calm, understanding and they need to have the students best interests at heart. I have a lot of patience, I understand that everyone has strengths and weaknesses and that everything can be learnt. Everyone has the capability, some people just…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

Educators play an important role in how students minds are shaped and how they approach problems in their studies. Believing in students that they can achieve their goal is one of the most important aspects of teaching them so it encourages them to strive towards their goal rather than realise they aren't capable enough. Watching them set out a…

Attention, commitment and communication are the most important things that I consider a tutor can do for a student. My strengths as a tutor are: -I'm very organised as it is one of the most important strengths because it helps the tutor and the student to complete tasks on time. -Patience is another strength for me as I have to deal with…

Inside Daisy HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lachlan worked on Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry basics, followed by practice with congruent and similar triangles using diagrams.

Year 9 student Xavier revised algebraic factorisation and applied index laws to simplify expressions, also reviewing substitution in equations based on previous test feedback.

For Year 6, Lucas practised arithmetic with negative numbers, tackled square roots, and solved problems involving highest common factors and lowest common multiples through step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when factorising meant small sign errors crept in; as one tutor observed, "he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

In Year 8 geometry, neatness was flagged: diagrams for congruent triangles were hard to follow because sides and angles weren't clearly labelled.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student hesitated with division word problems, sometimes avoiding pen-to-paper practice—this slowed progress with equations.

A senior maths student relied heavily on a formula sheet for box-plots instead of recalling processes independently during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daisy Hill noticed one Year 11 student, who used to hesitate when facing assessment criteria, now proactively refines her PSMT drafts and asks for targeted feedback—showing real initiative.

In Year 10 maths, a student who previously guessed through congruency proofs is now clearly identifying the type of congruency in each problem and explaining their reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, during a primary session, a younger learner who felt anxious about class tests was able to revise most topics independently from the worksheet with less worry and attempted more questions independently than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Hyperdome Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Daisy Hill State School.
