Give them confidence that they have the ability to be good at maths and the knowledge that they can use the methods of learning in other subjects. My strengths would be that I could help the student understand how to tackle a problem in the best way he/she feels comfortable as there are various ways to solve math problems, and some students prefer…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them either to solve their queries and/or to further understand a topic in the respective subjects. When I first came to Australia, my English tutor was really helpful in answering my questions and equips me with basic skills for school such as grammar. My strengths are connecting…

The most important thing for a tutor is to know how well students respond to different teaching methods and ensure they learn the content suited to their own learning methods. I do not have experience in tutoring; however, I think I can bring a positive influence to the students by catering to their different needs as learners. I also have…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them grow. Children have a developing brain. An adult has to program the kid's brain. Moreover, they should be programmed with positivity and creativity. A tutor should be able to identify the strength of a student. Children should not only be taught to be academically good but to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to give his/her students the confidence to independently tackle any task or question that they encounter in their education careers. I believe in preparing a student to handle situation which the world throws at any point of time. Character. A character of patience from the tutor could be a lot helpful. Because people are different and unique. It doesn't matter how long it takes for a student to understand a topic/subject. Some students learn fast, while others aren't, so all it takes from the tutor is a bit of patience and repetition. I am confident and am someone whom…

The most important thing will be to help the student find his/her interest in the subject. Inside GreenbankTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Olivia tackled simple and compound interest calculations, applying formulas to practical scenarios.

In Year 11, Ethan focused on exponential growth and decay, along with an introduction to logarithms and their properties.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ava revised second derivatives—using them for graphing and motion problems—and practiced solving complex triangle questions drawn from recent classwork.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hesitated to attempt exam-style modelling questions, even when her reasoning was correct—"she often takes the right steps but is very reluctant," as one tutor noted.

In Year 8 algebra, skipping key steps when rearranging equations led to small errors that made entire solutions fall apart.

A Year 5 learner avoided writing working for multi-step word problems, preferring mental calculation; this meant mistakes crept in unnoticed and were only found much later.

In senior statistics, over-reliance on notes and calculators left gaps in understanding, especially when faced with new calculator functions during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Greenbank tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely heavily on notes now solving statistics problems almost entirely from memory, even tackling tricky triangle rules with new independence.

A high schooler recently started spotting and correcting their own errors while interpreting complex questions—something they hesitated to do before—which means fewer mistakes slip through.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously rushed her work is now talking aloud about each maths step and highlighting key details, leading her to solve three-digit subtraction problems without any help for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenbank Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia Heights State School.
