I think a welcoming environment is a key aspect to tutoring. I want to have a personal connection with each student. This makes the students want to engage more and helps learning become more enjoyable and also more rewarding. My strengths would include being friendly so that asking questions and making mistakes is a positive thing and part of the…

One of the most important thing to do is to understand what the student needs. Through careful evaluation an economics tutor should identify the student's weakness and put more focus on that area. Another important thing is to always address their questions. Sometimes my students asked me questions which I did not know the answer to, so I looked…

I think patience is the biggest key factor as without that there can be no way an economics tutor could help a student. Learning new things can be tricky and scary which is why a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning pace, be able to communicate thoroughly and also make the learning experience a fun one I am a very patient person…

The most important thing that an economics tutor can do for a student is to develop an organic interest in the subject, where a student, of his own accord, picks up the topic and explores it. Larger goal remains that of the student being able to maximize their potential and develop confidence and self-belief. If a tutor can spark an interest where…

I believe the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to find out the student's learning method and try to adapt to that. Everyone learns differently and tutoring should be focused on helping the student in the best possible way that they can receive. I can easily adapt to new situations and environments which will help…

Having empathy to relate with students as well as discipline. Especially discipline, to let students know that you have expectations for them and that they have to do their part whether it being assignments or pre-reading that you give, if they want to get better. The most important part of being an economics tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. A tutor should spend time to listen to the needs of the student and spend time to build the students confidence in their own ability. By being a listener and confidence builder, this can inspire the student to tackle challenging and difficult problems and questions therefore imparting not just academic skills but life skills as well. Often if students are seeking tutoring, they are struggling or in a place of doubt about their abilities. Inside NedlandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sofia worked on identifying and using nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives in English, alongside practicing multiplication tables for 4, 6, 7, 8, and 12.

In Year 8, Chloe focused on understanding isomorphic graphs and adjacency matrices in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled Pythagoras' Theorem by finding hypotenuse lengths as well as working through problems requiring calculation of unknown side lengths given the hypotenuse.

Recent Challenges

In recent lessons, a Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework and sometimes brought only answers rather than full working, which made it hard to pinpoint where understanding was lost.

A tutor noted, "He relied on mental maths for division instead of writing steps," leading to repeated errors in basic calculations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, messy written work during standard deviation questions meant time was wasted hunting for calculation slips instead of focusing on new concepts.

Another senior student skipped practicing harder problems and depended heavily on calculators before attempting questions by hand, especially under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nedlands noticed that a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on worded trigonometry questions is now breaking down each part independently and double-checking his steps, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

Another recent high school session saw Chloe challenge herself by working through matrices unaided for the first time, showing she's comfortable relying on her own skills.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with tricky multiplication now openly checks his thinking out loud and requests clarification whenever he's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
