The most important things a tutor can do for a student includes being able to communicate clearly, allowing the student to understand them more easier and this therefore provides a more efficient leaning experience for the student. Furthermore, being able to adapt with the student's pace is definitely significant so it allows the student to…

Tutors can be a reason to guide the students in the right direction. Sometimes, a student might need a tiny little nudge to get them on track and tutors can be or are the right persons for that. A tutor can be a friend guiding the student in every obstacle they come across. A tutor can also be a role model for the students by creating a long…

Tutors can help students develop the knowledge required for their schooling, but also help students develop the skills to learn efficiently and to a deeper level. This sets up good foundations for the future, if the student would like to study more in the future in the field, and will be helpful for future endeavors (university for example). I am…

In my opinion, the most important thing a private tutor can do for a student is give them the opportunity to make mistakes in a safe environment where they feel they won't be judged. Building confidence and supporting students to increase their self-esteem won't only help them in their school subjects, but is a valuable skill that will last them a…

A tutor MUST be able to explain concepts to students in very different ways that allow them to understand a difficult topic. Sometimes teachers at school cannot personally cater to students, so tutors should strive to explain things in a very eloquent, logical manner so that the student can follow. Ability to relate. I will not be "above" them,…

The most important thing is for the tutor to listen and focus on where the student is struggling. Sometimes simplifying things down to the basics is the best way to get a student to understand something. Each session must be personalised to cater to the student's needs. Each session I deliver is very personalised. No child is the same and I can…

I think the goal of a tutor is to give students the knowledge they need, not only about subject contents but also about a person. Tutors should become a guideline to follow as a person, I mean honest, kind, responsible, etc. A tutor should be good at listening. Tutors need to listen to their students to understand their needs. A tutor should be…

Apart from helping them achieve good grades, a tutor could also act as a guide or a right role model figure to inspire and motivate the students. Undoubtedly, the student and the tutor are going to have conversations that are off-topic, having a sound mind to answer those questions a student might have reflect those inner qualities about the tutor…

A tutor must be able to recognise exactly what the student is struggling with, and thus also be able to ameliorate this issue through their knowledge, even if it requires perseverance. A tutor must also explain every step concisely to the student, so that it can make sense to the student, not just merely to an experienced tutor. I am very good at…

Inside OrmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia worked on solving simultaneous linear equations and finding gradients from y = mx + c, using graph sketches to visualise relationships.

Year 10 student Jacob revised completing the square and factorisation by grouping, then practised graphing parabolas using both techniques.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled index and exponential equations alongside revision of logarithm laws, focusing on simplifying complex expressions step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow: he often left out brackets and negatives, making it difficult to check for sign errors in factorising quadratics.

For a Year 11 probability task, another needed extra reminders to bring the right notes and practice sheets—forgetting materials slowed revision on conditional events.

A Year 10 student tackling simultaneous equations sometimes hesitated to show steps, especially with negatives; this meant time was lost fixing hidden calculation slips rather than moving ahead.

In senior calculus, over-reliance on notes for derivatives delayed progress when formulas weren't immediately at hand.

Recent Achievements

One Ormond tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze when asked to solve simultaneous equations now working through them out loud, checking each step rather than staying silent and stuck.

In a recent high school session, a Year 12 student who had been avoiding surds altogether managed to simplify several on her own and even asked for extra examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once rushed and guessed at multiplication facts slowed down during practice, carefully double-checking answers before moving on. At the end of his lesson, he finished all ten problems without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yesodei HaTorah College - Ormond Campus. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Ormond, 5/596 North Rd, Ormond, 3204, VIC, 03 7073 7122
