I believe the most important thing an english tutor can do for students is to guide and assist them to complete assignments and homework rather than completing it for them. This will not only allow them to ask questions and gain a basic understanding of how to do a task, but it will also allow them to successfully complete a similar task without…

Most importantly, an english tutor can lead a student to realise what they are capable of. This kind of core belief change leads a student to have the self-confidence to reach their full potential, including their best learning. I am patient, understanding and compassionate. Even if a young person's lack of self-confidence results in negative…

I realize tutoring is not just about being a private teacher who delivers knowledge outside of school. It is also about being a mentor, a facilitator, a friend who can help learners grow and develop good habits in order to have the best performance in learning. Besides, the tutor is the one who understand the student' strengths and weaknesses in…

A tutor is supposed to ensure learning and the growth of the students academic skills. Also to make sure their goals are strong enough for them to reach success in the future. I am patient and I do not back down if the student is not ready to learn. I use different tactics to engage the student such as asking them what they struggle with and…

To encourage them to keep going and not give up, because it can get really upsetting to the student if they can't understand a specific thing after some time spent on it. It's important to reassure them that the progress they've made so far has been good and worthwhile, and that everyone's learning paces are different. Most importantly, it's…

Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

As an english tutor you can provide a child/student with a different outlook on their learning. For example, their school teacher may have explained it in a way that the child didn't particularly understand, and as a tutor you can give them a more unique and individual learning experience that they wouldn't get at school. Providing children with…

Inside ParacombeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Marley revised mean, median, and mode in statistics, then worked through histograms using real data sets.

In Year 9, Jay tackled algebraic expansion with the distributive law and FOIL rule before moving on to factorising by finding common factors.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia focused on linear equations—drawing graphs from y-intercept and slope—and also practised solving for x and y in various contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when using a scientific calculator for equations, seemed confused about entering formulas and which operations to prioritise, leading to hesitation and errors in multi-step problems.

In Year 10 algebra lessons, one student avoided writing out working—he preferred doing everything at once on the calculator, which made it hard to spot where mistakes crept in, especially with negatives.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student grew frustrated after small errors; as noted, he didn't realise he was actually improving by making and reviewing mistakes. Confidence slipped each time a sign error reappeared during fractions practice.

Recent Achievements

One Paracombe tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating when faced with unfamiliar algebra questions, began attempting new problems independently and corrected his own mistakes without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student who used to confuse percentage mark-ups and mark-offs started distinguishing between the two more reliably after targeted practice, showing clearer reasoning during finance exercises.

Meanwhile, in primary school, a younger student who struggled to show her working has now started writing her answers in clear steps each time, finishing all ten problems without skipping any part of her process.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Paracombe Primary and Preschool.
