Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student is help them gain the tools necessary to be able to succeed on their own. As a tutor, helping students not only believe in themselves, but also helping them gain the strategies and tools to overcome difficult academic and non-academic problems is an important thing. Tutors need to…

In my opinion the most important thing that a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to set the student up in a positive mindset towards learning. This includes encouraging the student to strive in their academic life as well as assist them in understanding methods they can use to seek support in learning different concepts. Being a high school…

A tutor should take their time with a student and make sure the student understands before moving on. I believe the purpose of tutoring should be to provide learning strategies that are specific to the individual in contrast with teaching in a classroom (at the pace of the class). A tutor should provide multiple strategies for learning. For…

The most vital thing a chemistry tutor can do is to make study fun , yes, a student who just remained worried about studies and exams should no longer be worried if he or she has a tutor . I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can be is patient and supportive. As tutors, we have already completed these subjects, and so we know the 'pressure points' and ways to deal with them. It is our job to pass on this knowledge and help others. If someone is receiving tutoring, most often they are struggling with one or more parts…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to and understand the students' difficulties and know the parts they need my help the most. When I was a student, my teacher was not really able to help with my needs since he had to take care of so many students at the same time. Therefore, I think as a private tutor, I…

Inside ParacombeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Marley revised mean, median, and mode in statistics, then worked through histograms using real data sets.

In Year 9, Jay tackled algebraic expansion with the distributive law and FOIL rule before moving on to factorising by finding common factors.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia focused on linear equations—drawing graphs from y-intercept and slope—and also practised solving for x and y in various contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when using a scientific calculator for equations, seemed confused about entering formulas and which operations to prioritise, leading to hesitation and errors in multi-step problems.

In Year 10 algebra lessons, one student avoided writing out working—he preferred doing everything at once on the calculator, which made it hard to spot where mistakes crept in, especially with negatives.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student grew frustrated after small errors; as noted, he didn't realise he was actually improving by making and reviewing mistakes. Confidence slipped each time a sign error reappeared during fractions practice.

Recent Achievements

One Paracombe tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating when faced with unfamiliar algebra questions, began attempting new problems independently and corrected his own mistakes without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student who used to confuse percentage mark-ups and mark-offs started distinguishing between the two more reliably after targeted practice, showing clearer reasoning during finance exercises.

Meanwhile, in primary school, a younger student who struggled to show her working has now started writing her answers in clear steps each time, finishing all ten problems without skipping any part of her process.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Paracombe Primary and Preschool.
