The most important thing a tutor can do is be there for the student. Unlike a teacher, the tutor has the luxury of being able to pace shift, and cater to the individual. Thus, taking absolute advantage of this 'power' is of the utmost importance, making sure that you, as a tutor, are meeting the needs of your student. I believe my strengths are…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make learning fun and not tiring or boring. The subject taught or the way it's taught should always be exciting, even if the test marks are not that high yet. Once the student finds their interest in the subject, I'm sure they will climb back up and succeed in no time. My strengths as a tutor are: I…

A tutor's job is to teach. However, I do believe that the student's experience during their time learning most important. From my observations, students will not really pay attention if they are not interested or if they are not having a good time, which is why, in my opinion, it is important that students are having a good time while they are…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make the subject material engaging, fun and captivating. In my opinion, a student can only learn and develop if they choose to do so, regardless of the ability or experience of the tutor or student. Thus, by making the subject in question seem alive through enthusiasm and engagement, the student…

As a tutor, I believe it is important to improve their weaknesses so that they are a more well-rounded student. A tutor should also teach students a problem-solving mindset which can be applied to any subject, making them better academically in all fields. Having just graduated, I have in-depth knowledge of how VCE works and what students can do…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to understand the way in which they learn so that the tutor can best apply their teaching strategy. 1. Build a strong personal relationship with the student to create the optimal learning environment where the student is comfortable to communicate as he wants with the tutor 2. A tutor can provide a rubric(concepts/ideas simplified into bullet points) and summarized notes so students can combat any questions asked 3. Set out goals for the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student extend beyond mere knowledge transfer. Firstly, it involves identifying the student's individual learning style and adapting teaching methods accordingly to enhance comprehension. Building a strong rapport and creating a supportive learning environment are crucial for instilling confidence and…

The biggest things a student can have their tutor do are to make the student feel assured, adapt their learning style to the student's, and demystify hard concepts. A student was struggling with algebra and felt discouraged. My goal was to help him understand the concepts and build their confidence. So, I broke down the problems into simple…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence while helping them understand the subject. One the most important things a tutor can do for their student is to teach them how to study and learn in the absence of any teacher or tutor in order to help them throughout their entire student life. Inside WaterwaysTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ethan practised writing numbers in expanded form and solved digit combination challenge questions that required using each digit only once.

For Year 10, Sarah worked on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and was introduced to the discriminant, applying these concepts directly to her schoolwork.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James focused on finding equations of lines given a gradient and a point, then continued assigned work on linear relations using his Easter homework sheet.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student frequently avoided writing out algebra steps, preferring to do calculations mentally—this made it hard to catch sign errors and led to confusion when checking answers ("he had the habit of trying to do all the steps in his head before answering").

In a Year 11 Physics session, equations from electromagnetism were only vaguely recalled unless prompted, as no organized summary or reference list was maintained.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student with creative story ideas found transferring thoughts onto paper challenging; great verbal detail vanished when faced with the blank page. Each instance meant time spent retracing rather than progressing.

Recent Achievements

One Waterways tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help now confidently requesting clarification on using the calculator's shift function for inverse trigonometry—he then completed angle problems independently.

In Year 8, a student who used to guess at comprehension answers began searching for "hints" within texts and solved worded maths questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 4, once distracted during spelling activities, managed to write each target word three times as directed and sorted them into categories with much more focus than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aspendale Gardens Primary School.
