For me, the most important thing a tutor can do for his student, is to make the latter find himself. This means that the tutor should first teach him how to learn, make him find ways/conditions in which he thrives the most. I believe that if the student manages to unlock that skill, irrespective of the subject, the sky is the limit for the…

A tutor , much like a teacher , should not only help to suppllicate the teachings that one receives in school , but also to establish a relationship with the student to help them learn the basic etiquttes of life and also to provide them a new perspective of life ,for which they may not be able to comprehend at this time. A tutor should also…

To foster a good tutor-student relationship first. Having this as the first form of connection will help know the students character and personality (and vice versa) which then will help the tutor know the best way to teach. I believe this relationship is necessary for effective teaching. I learnt most and learnt best from the lecturers with whom…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to understand their struggles and to make them realise their own potential, so they can have the confidence to grow on their own. Most important thing is pace .The way you pace your study is pivotal as not all people can incorporate the study in the same manner. So a tutor has to be patient and pace his study according to each child .In a group session ,I think the children who take longer to understand subject material will lag .So it is the tutor's responsibility to pace…

On my opinion a tutor should bring up their habit to ask more, be more interested in learning new things, and not just only improving their answering skills in the exam to get high marks/ grades. I am patient with the kids and know how they will be come attentive and urge to learn more. For some cases, by using drawings can help the children learn…

It is only right for a tutor to be kind and patient towards children, as they are dealing with people with developing brains. The way tutors handle children can have an impact both emotionally and mentally, leading to hindered learning progress. Every student can excel when provided with the correct guidance. The most important things a tutor should do are, first and foremost, to understand the student's perspective, that is, to assess the student's shortcomings and their underlying causes. Then, use the student's strengths to his advantage. A tutor must help the student develop a love…

Inside BentleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ali worked on finding gradients of lines using both the rise over run method and co-ordinates, as well as solving linear inequalities and exploring parallel and perpendicular gradients.

For Year 10, Sara focused on chemical equations by practising ionic formulas, hydrated compounds, and empirical formula calculations, reinforcing her understanding through worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Nia tackled decimals and fractions in geometry questions, using diagrams to help compare values and solve problems involving shapes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on chemical equations had not completed the assigned homework, leading to repeated minor errors in writing formulas—"the student still shows some minor mistakes in writing chemical formulas," noted one tutor.

In Year 8 maths, another student's written work on rearranging equations was messy and lacked clear labelling, making it harder to spot calculation errors before moving on.

A Year 4 learner avoided practicing weekly spelling words, so the same mistakes resurfaced during class dictation.

One Year 7 student faced ongoing challenges converting word problems into diagrams, losing focus mid-task and requiring multiple reminders to return attention to problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bentley noticed one Year 11 student who used to hesitate with balancing ionic equations now talks through each step aloud and manages most problems independently.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about forming linear equations, has started solving for 'c' and graphing inequalities without prompting—she even asked for extra questions last session.

In a Year 4 session, a student who would get distracted during math tasks stayed focused throughout and answered all mental calculation questions quickly, showing much more patience than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Clara School.
