Understanding the needs of every individual student and making sure that he/she can help the student in every way possible. Gaining the students trust and making them comfortable around you so that they do not hesitate to ask you anything is important as well. Just creating a homely environment while teaching so that it doesn't feel like…

The most important things I do as a tutor are listening carefully to understand where a student is struggling, explaining concepts in a way that matches their vocabulary and thinking style, and building the right mindset. Knowledge alone can only take a student so far - confidence in their own understanding is what truly helps them improve and…

A tutor is somebody who is most significantly; approachable. While a student can learn from a thousand different ways , a tutor is meant to expose them to those ways so that they achieve their goals. Keeping the deadlines in check, their is a responsibility to make sure that all of the essential learning is checked off the list to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to listen to the student, as well as teaching. Encouraging the student to provide their input on a topic without having any pretentious predelection will allow the student to become more confident in their learning. I have the ability to gage the student's difficulty and work with them from that level.…

The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is be there as a support, guide and motivator. Ideally, a tutor should be able to model and share learning experiences that are genuine and authentic to the student. I am personable and try to ensure all my learning experiences can be applied to the real world. I am patient and considerate…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen. I believe listening is very important since if you don't listen to your student, or get them to explain concepts for themselves, you won't be able to deduce which areas to focus on. One of my weaknesses as a tutor would have to be that if my student is having difficulty,…

To me, one of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give the student confidence. When a student gains confidence that they can do it, they will be more willing to put effort and also do better in their examinations. I would say my strength as a tutor is to be able to get into the studnets's level and explain to them in a way…

Helping students understand that they are capable of overcoming their difficulties with the subject. Helping them to identify what they need to improve in order to perform better. The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there to support them in their wins and losses. They need to be available to answer their questions, no matter how silly. Tutors should be able to convey information in a way that not only makes sense, but engages the student. A tutor should be as eager about the subject they are teaching as they are knowledgeable of the topic, and should strive to convey this excitement and passion through their teaching. The ability to help a student not only understand, but love…

To recognise the student's limits, and to help them reach beyond them. A tutor should set realistic goals for students to help them stay motivated and to make progress in their learning, however, they should also encourage students to achieve higher through effective communication and tutoring support. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to work the questions out and guide them rather than just telling them the answers. By actually teaching instead of telling, they are more likely to enjoy the subject and do well on exams and future assignments. The end goal of tutoring is for the student to be capable of…

Easy to organise a tutor, and the tutor we got is so great with my 9 year old. Patient and very knowledgeable, and most importantly is really helping my daughter catch up and feel more confident with maths. Thank you!
Linda, Boondall

Inside BoondallTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Georgia focused on creative writing for an English assignment and prepared for upcoming Shakespeare assessments.

Year 12 student Olivia practised drawing ray diagrams and applied formulas for period, frequency, and wavelength in Physics.

Meanwhile, another Year 12, Noah, reviewed concepts of black body radiation and the double-slit experiment to deepen understanding of quantum phenomena.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived with almost no school resources, making it hard to build on recent classwork; as a tutor noted, "had she gathered all her resources, the lesson would've been smoother."

In Year 12 Physics, one student repeatedly forgot to bring a charged computer, which meant lost time accessing materials and completing tasks.

For a Year 6 maths learner, reluctance to write out working led to confusion when mistakes occurred—reminders helped her see where things went wrong.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 science, distraction from upcoming assessments made it difficult to stay focused on current tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Boondall recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to avoid asking for help now regularly prepares thoughtful questions before each session, showing a real shift toward independent learning.

In Year 9 maths, one student began using her formula sheet unprompted and checked her working without reminders—a big change from needing constant reassurance last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often hesitated on multiplication tests managed to complete all problems solo this week, even when feeling unwell. She finished every question accurately and didn't give up halfway through the task.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandgate Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boondall State School.
