A tutor is an important role and a mentor. Students select tutors because they have the enthusiasm to learn and perhaps do not have the resources needed which a tutor can fill in. I am calm, patient and have an insight to give my best so that people can benefit from me. I want children to excel and do well beyond they can dream…

The special thing about a tutor compared to a classroom teacher is that tutors deal with students on a much more personal level, with this, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand and relate to the student personally his/her insights on the subject. Tutors can try to understand why the student either love,…

Being able to give them the independence of trying a question and then spending a reasonable amount of time trying to solve it rather than only explaining for the full tutoring session. My strength would be pinpointing what the student doesn't understand and using analogies or using patterns from concepts they already understand to portray the…

Inside Bow BowingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Lachlan practised three-digit addition and subtraction along with multiplication, focusing on improving calculation speed.

For Year 8 Maths, Aryan tackled the basics of probability and chance, including sample space using everyday examples.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 Maths, Leon worked through financial maths topics from his textbook, particularly simple and compound interest problems and real-life money scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students in Bow Bowing showed process obstacles impacting progress.

For example, a Year 11 student tackling algebra and trigonometry relied heavily on calculators, missing sign errors—"he needs to be careful on his signs with algebra," as one tutor observed—which meant time spent correcting rather than learning new content.

In Year 9, another student struggled with exam-style questions due to messy working and not highlighting key information; their rushed approach left gaps when interpreting word problems.

Meanwhile, a primary student avoided written working for subtraction out of fear of mistakes, resulting in repeated confusion during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bow Bowing recently noticed Leon, a high school student, now independently translates worded maths problems into equations and chooses the right methods without prompting—a big shift from when he'd hesitate on each step.

Another high schooler, Vasati, has begun tackling percentage and fraction conversions using a calculator confidently; she used to avoid these questions altogether.

For a younger student, reading aloud has improved noticeably—she used to guess at tricky words but now stops to sound them out and checks their meaning before moving on. Last week, she read an entire page unassisted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Andrews Public School.
