I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think a tutor…

Consistency. I have been a tutor to some students for over a year. My students have achieved long-term improvements in their academics, whether that be improvement in grades, or improved studying habits and note-taking skills. I prefer to explain the learning material in the simplest way and test their understanding through application of their…

In my perspective, providing confidence is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. The majority of people would hire a tutor is because of one's unsatisfactory performance towards the subject. Confidence would increase the understanding process for most of the people. Furthermore, to excel in the subject, the student has to work…

I think the most important thing, and probably the greatest thing I can give to students is inspiration. My subject knowledge is something they should be able to take for granted. If I can inspire them, then they will go on learning long after their contact with me is ended. In addition, the passion is another vital element for math tutoring. I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are to cultivate a deep understanding of the subject matter and to inspire a love for learning. This involves going beyond simply solving problems or answering questions, but rather, helping students develop critical thinking skills and a genuine interest in the topic.…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be able to explain how to solve problems in several different ways, particularly if a student is struggling to understand how to solve it the first time. These problem solving skills will help them in other areas as well, such as chemistry and physics. My main strength as a tutor…

To inspire them, to teach them, to help them and to be a role model. We can have fun during activities and do serious work when we should. It is through the Tutor that the student will probably choose his field for his career, so the Tutor has to be really encouraging. Instil in a student a love of learning; teach them how to learn and how to manage their own education. The most important thing is to fully understand the doubts of the student and their lack of understanding in different areas of a subject. It is then necessary to device a personalised plan of action for that student, to strengthen those concepts and help them gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. This is the most crucial thing a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is ensure that a student does not hate the subject they require tutoring in. I believe a tutor can have tremendous effects on the self confidence of a student and his ways of learning. I am a very approachable tutor and I mostly have my own ways to approach a problem. The most important things that one can do for a student is make the learning material relatable to them. Inside BurnleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sam worked through factorisation in algebra and solved chemistry mole calculation problems, using step-by-step examples to clarify each process.

For Year 10, Matt focused on structuring English essays by embedding quotes effectively and linking evidence to themes in "The Golden Age."

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Yasmine practiced plotting linear equations on a graph—finding coordinates and understanding why these equations form straight lines—by working through visual exercises together.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in Mathematics often avoided writing out equations and working, relying on mental calculations—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors. This made it hard to spot where his reasoning broke down.

In Year 11 English, a student repeatedly left homework incomplete and didn't use highlighters or mindmaps for essay planning, missing opportunities to structure arguments more clearly.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 struggled with consistently bringing required books to lessons, disrupting focus at the start of each session.

During a Physics assignment in Year 12, brief answers were submitted without detail, limiting depth and understanding.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burnley noticed Matt now completes all his English homework ahead of time and uses planning tables and flash cards to organise ideas—previously he'd only write brief notes and needed prompting.

In Year 10 Biology, another student who once hesitated with project tasks started volunteering creative ways to build a plant cell diorama after some encouragement.

Meanwhile, Yasin (Year 12) is showing real independence: instead of waiting for solutions, he's begun applying physics formulas by himself during lessons and checking his own answers before asking for help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Boroondara Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like SEDA College (Victoria) - FFV Burnley.
