I believe that a tutor should make learning engaging and interesting so that the student is able to learn the content as easily and stress free as possible. Tutors should also accelerate students learning to give them an advantage at school I am very understanding of things that could be difficult for a student to grasp. I am also patient and able…

There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

I think the most important thing a tutor can be is a mentor and a human being. Someone for younger students to look up to and guide but also relate to in other aspects outside of tutoring. I communicate very well and am extremely patient with younger. I'm able to clearly break down problems and can explain concepts very…

The teachers beyond simply imparting information to their students, I believe the main purpose of tutoring is to helping students help and motivate themselves. The other important thing is to guide them to the point where the students can become independent learners. communication and social skills. patience, responsibility, tolerance. ability…

The most important thing is being able to connect with the children and spark curiosity about the subjects in their minds. As them being excited to learn makes them more receptive to learn more complex topics with relative ease. My strengths are approaching problems with different perspectives and focusing on the logic and structure of the…

There could by many reasons why students come to tutoring: they're struggling to keep up, they want to excel or simply their parents want them to go. No matter the reason, what I think is most important for a tutor to do is to try and make the students actually interested in the content in front of them and then aid them as they grapple with it.…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is serve as a secondary teacher/mentor to a school teacher. As school teachers have to focus on a large class (usually around 30 students), they are unable to address the needs of each student. As each student has their own struggles and needs, an exterior tutor provides…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to truly understand the student and make them feel supported and comfortable. It's crucial to identify where the student is struggling and where they need support, as well as recognizing their potential. Tailoring the teaching approach to suit the individual needs of each student is key, as I…

The most important thing a math tutor can do for a student is help them build confidence. From my experience, most students understand math but are afraid of it. Being scared of math makes it more likely for students to make mistakes. My HSC maths teacher used to say that to be able to understand mathematics, one must understand the basics of it…

I think a tutor has to be such kind of person who can unwillingly be able to establish himself/ herself as a role model to follow which will guarantee the success of the the student in the future. My personal opinion on me is I can understand the problem being faced by the students despite their denial about the problem and eventually bring them…

Definitely to be patient and to never assume knowledge as known or simple. Further to focus on not just content, but also mark schemes for maximum success. The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is providing as much information as they can. The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

Inside BurwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised multiplication and fractions, working through long division strategies to boost confidence.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and simplifying expressions, as well as exploring graph transformations using visual aids.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia revised simultaneous equations and functions—solving systems both algebraically and graphically—to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on quadratic equations often omitted key steps in their written solutions—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—making it harder to identify mistakes.

In a Year 8 class, one student avoided homework and relied heavily on guessing answers instead of attempting the calculations, especially during worded problems.

For a Year 4 lesson, another child struggled to focus and frequently left tasks incomplete when practicing multiplication tables.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for exams did not attempt assigned practice papers outside lessons, resulting in less familiarity with time-pressured questions.

Recent Achievements

One Burwood tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely on step-by-step guidance now arriving at sessions with her own attempted exam questions, only needing small hints to push through tricky parts—she's even begun correcting her own mistakes before asking for help.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who struggled to keep up with homework is now consistently completing tasks on time and presenting neater working out in maths, showing real ownership of her learning.

In a younger class, one child who often hesitated to start tasks has started counting by twos independently and no longer says "I don't know" right away when faced with new problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burwood Public School.
