The most valuable duty of an economics tutor is to focus on the holistic development of a student, allowing them to be persistent, independent and problem-solving to tackle any academic or life challenge. My strengths are my simplistic and analogy-based approach to explaining concepts, and my emphasis on exam technique that allows students to feel…

I believe an economics tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where…

The key benefit of an economics tutor is that they can provide individualised support for a student. Tutors have the unique position of being able to become very familiar with their students' understanding of subjects, and employ the most effective strategies to improve their learning. While teachers at students' schools often may not be able to…

Develop their understanding of the subject. This means ensuring they understand the process and the mechanism behind a math calculation for example. This will boost their confidence in being able to answer harder questions that require this skill. Particularly for maths, the harder questions are situated in Q15 and Q16. Attaining marks in this…

A tutor should educate a student in the required content and keeping the student engaged, whilst still ensuring that the session is enjoyable, and fulfilling. To achieve this, an economics tutor should obviously be diligent in teaching, which includes preparing content and lessons beforehand, as well as consistently asking the student for feedback…

I believe an economics tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother.…

Inside Croydon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ava practised converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time and solved real-world questions involving elapsed time.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on trigonometry for right-angled triangles—applying SOHCAHTOA—and used exact values to solve complementary angle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily worked through compound interest calculations and interpreted financial math scenarios like salary earning and wages using income tables.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students encountered process obstacles impacting progress.

In Year 10 algebra, one student's working out was hard to follow—layout made it tricky to spot where the sign error occurred.

A Year 12 student revising trigonometry formulas and standard deviation struggled with retaining multi-step processes; as a tutor noted, she forgot which formula applied mid-question.

Another senior found it challenging to remember when to use different log rules in compound interest problems, often defaulting to notes rather than recalling independently.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student tackling long division showed hesitation setting out each step clearly on paper, leading to repeated corrections and lost confidence during trickier questions.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon Park tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck memorising formulas—now she thinks through which formula fits the problem, using memory tricks and visual cues.

A Year 8 student, who once hesitated to ask questions, is now starting word problems on her own and explaining each step out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised her tutor by independently reading times from an analog clock and then converting them accurately to 24-hour time without prompting—something that was tricky for her just two weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Croydon Park Public School.
