I think reinforcing good habits such as consistent studying, and getting good sleep are the best things a tutor can recommend, followed closely by catering lessons to specific concepts that they are struggling in. I am a very process oriented person, meaning I enjoy understanding why something works, rather then just replicating. This means I can…

Tutor Caloundra West, QLD
As a tutor the most important thing to achieve with a student is for the student to be self motivated and to become and independent learner, as well as the tutor to be able to communicate a deeper understanding of the topic. I have highly effective study methods to learn math which I pass onto my students and I am very good at explaining a deeper…

Inside CaloundraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Summer focused on subtraction using number lines and telling time with analogue clocks, working through practical questions from her homework.

Year 9 student Rebecca tackled simplifying algebraic terms and solving rate problems, revisiting tricky homework exercises for extra practice.

For Year 11, Joshua worked through trigonometry concepts in preparation for an upcoming unit, including hands-on problem-solving with right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 engineering student hesitated to seek clarity from teachers about assignment expectations and relied heavily on school-provided resources rather than independently tackling the sketching and prototyping phases—"he just needs to find a way of doing all the processes without relying heavily on the resources available at the school."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 maths student often needed reminders for foundational formulas and sometimes skipped steps in multi-step equations, which led to confusion mid-solution.

In one session, missed homework in primary maths meant multiplication practice was incomplete; this left gaps that showed up when recalling times tables during revision games.

Recent Achievements

One Caloundra tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously doubting his abilities in advanced maths, now finds his subjects easy and even requested to move into Mathematical Methods—a big shift from initial hesitation.

In Year 9, another student who used to get stuck on indices worked through her confusion with practice and could confidently solve problems by the end of the session.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student surprised her tutor by reading graphs independently for the first time after weeks of relying on help, then asked to try a harder graphing question without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caloundra Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caloundra State School.
