The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student interested in whatever subject they are learning. The best way to learn anything is to show genuine interest in that topic. Tutors should not only assist students in specific areas, they should also engage with the student in a manner that makes the student interested in…

Inside CharnwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hayley practised converting between decimals and fractions and improved her understanding of **fractions and percentages** using real-life examples.

For Year 10, Caledon focused on **transformations of quadratic functions**—including translations, reflections, and dilations—and started work with circle graphs based on his teacher's worksheet.

In Year 12, Anise worked through the application of the **chain rule to differentiate complex compound functions** and also revised key algebraic manipulation skills through challenging extension questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly arrived without completed homework, which meant lesson time was spent catching up instead of tackling new topics.

As one tutor noted, "Caledon had forgot to do last week's homework again," and this pattern also left him less confident applying new formulas in algebra.

In a senior class, a Year 11 student avoided bringing example problems from school, making it difficult to target the right level—this led to confusion about what needed attention for upcoming assessments.

For another, messy mathematical grammar ("just being careful how you write out a problem") caused mistakes to slip by unnoticed during equation solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Charnwood noticed that Anise, a high school student, has started to independently check her work for errors when applying differentiation techniques—a big shift from earlier sessions where she'd rush through without reviewing her steps.

Meanwhile, Caledon recently tackled more abstract trigonometric equations and was able to connect them back to his prior algebra lessons, showing he's now linking concepts across topics instead of treating them separately.

Amit, also in high school, demonstrated new initiative by structuring his essay drafts himself before asking for feedback rather than waiting passively for direction.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kippax Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Brindabella Christian College - Charnwood campus.
