The power of being non-judgmental. A tutor must understand that every student has different learning capabilities and focus more on students that find it difficult to grasp concepts without belittling them. I believe I have two strengths as a tutor- 1. I do not follow the status quo/ set pattern of teaching. I like to mix things up so that my…

A tutor must be able to understand the challenges faced by the student and equip the student with strong skills to ensure they reach their full potential. One of my major strengths as a tutor is that I have good listening skills which creates a smooth conversation with the student. I also have good time management skills which ensures that every…

A tutor needs to understand how each student’s learning style differs and tailoring the teaching approach to suit their needs. This allows student to gain a deeper understanding of the subject. A tutor also needs to provide encouragement and foster a positive learning environment. This can be done by encouraging students to ask questions and…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do for his student, is to make the latter find himself. This means that the tutor should first teach him how to learn, make him find ways/conditions in which he thrives the most. I believe that if the student manages to unlock that skill, irrespective of the subject, the sky is the limit for the…

I consider the ability to connect and inspire the students to be the most important thing. To me, it is important to bring up their interest and motivate them to strive and reach their fullest potential rather than just teaching them from the material. I am able to connect with my students to understand their goals and I genuinely care for them to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build understanding and confidence. It's not just about getting the right answer, but making sure the student understands the process and can solve similar problems independently in the future. A good tutor should also be patient, supportive, and create an environment where students…

A tutor should give attention to her student as most of them work more if you recognize and praise them on their achievement. The simple things like greeting and smile are as important to light up their day. A tutor should be able to boost the confidence level of the students and make it easier for students to understand. My strengths include my…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are building confidence and encouraging independence in learning. For example, if a student struggles with algebra, rather than just providing the answers, a good tutor helps break down the problem into smaller, understandable steps, guiding the student through the process. This not only…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is focus on that student, listen to what they want and then create a personalised lesson just for them. The major difference between a class and a tutor is how the tutor is able to focus on the one student, and maximising this chance and truly listening to the student and helping them…

Listening is the most important thing a tutor can do for the student. Tutors cannot understand a student's requirements and expectations until they effectively give time to the student for communicating the same. However, listening alone does not suffice. A tutor must act on these requirements and prepare custom learning plans. Being someone who…

Give them the confidence they need to stay motivated to acheive their Goals. Whether it be merely passing a class or excelling wih 99%, any improvement needs to be congratulated. The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. Inside ComoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel worked on mastering multiplication tables up to 12 and practiced reading and drawing times on analog clocks.

For Year 8, Jessica focused on solving equations algebraically—showing all steps clearly—and revised lowest common denominators in fractions.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam tackled index laws through targeted practice questions and explored exponential functions, applying rules to different sequences.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student preparing for a test struggled with time management—she ran out of time to check answers in algebra, so small sign errors went unnoticed.

In Year 8 maths, messy working and unclear layout led to confusion during fraction calculations, making it harder to spot calculation slips or follow the method.

For a Year 3 learner, organization was an issue; forgetting their math notebook meant important notes weren't recorded, impacting revision later.

Meanwhile, a senior student focused mostly on easy textbook questions in Venn Diagrams and neglected the tougher ones, missing out on vital exam practice.

Recent Achievements

One Como tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's willingness to do homework; after weeks of leaving tasks unfinished, he arrived at his session with practice questions completed and specific areas ready for discussion.

A Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask for help came prepared this week with her own list of questions about index laws and even requested harder examples on scientific notation.

In primary, one student who'd been mixing up hours and minutes on an analog clock finally explained the difference without prompting, then drew the correct time twice in a row during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Perth Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Collier Primary School.
