I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is foster independent thinking and a growth mindset. Beyond simply helping a student complete their homework, a tutor must create a safe, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, as this is often where the deepest learning happens. By teaching them how to approach…

For me tutoring is not only about teaching a particular subject, its about being a companion to a student and support them emotionaly and well as in academics I don't get irritated even if someone ask a particular doubt multiple times. I have the ability to express the concept in terms of examples. Also I am someone who would treat the student as…

A tutor must be able to not just explain ideas to a student but also act as a mentor, providing advice on how to succeed in exams and assessments. Additionally one of the most important things for senior students that a tutor can provide is giving students access to resources to help them succeed in their own self study. My strengths as a tutor is…

A tutor's most important role is to build a students confidence while helping them develop a deep understanding of the material. Additionally, creating a supportive and motivating environment fosters curiosity and a love for learning. You also need to get to know the child infront of you, their strengths, their learning style and adapt lessons…

I believe the most important thing about a tutor is being able to provide self-confidence for the student. I do this through encouragement catered both individually and to the group (if there is one). I have found that when students believe they have the ability to complete the question, they are more likely to ask questions and understand the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be approachable and create a safe space for students to open up and ask questions about their topic, and to encourage them to ask any questions even if the questions seem meaningless, because it encourages the students to be proactive in their understanding of a subject, and…

A tutor can inspire newfound confidence or even passion in a student where it was previously lacking by helping build a solid foundation to tackle problems on their own. I am very patient and understand that one way of explaining does not fit all, and have an adaptable approach to teaching that accommodates all…

It’s essential to break down complex concepts into manageable parts and explain them in a way that makes sense to the student. Using analogies, visual aids, and real-world examples can be very effective. Establishing a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes is vital for…

Through the years I’ve build the experience to explain concepts from the ground up. Being able to come up with short questions that test their insight. In addition I am very patient. I think giving a student support and encouragement is extremely important as well as making things clear for students. Too often, students feel overwhelmed at the prospect of new, hard concepts, and simplifying the concepts and supporting students through this, enables them to achieve success. I think I am good at giving space for a student to try…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. I think my main strengths…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is build the student’s confidence and make learning feel less overwhelming. I also believe it’s not just about finding the right answer it’s about understanding why it’s the right answer. When students understand the reasoning behind a concept, they become more independent and develop…

Inside CoogeeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Robbie focused on multiplying and dividing fractions, then compared different fraction values using visual aids.

In Year 10, Claire worked through compound and simple interest calculations as well as interpreting compounded value tables for financial maths topics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex explored the declining-balance method of depreciation and reducing-balance loans, with practical examples to deepen understanding of financial mathematics concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student's test performance revealed persistent timing issues—"still struggling to complete tests in the correct time frame"—with rushed endings leading to unfinished questions in algebra.

For Year 11 Physics, forgotten content after missed sessions resulted in gaps that "couldn't be covered quickly before the test," causing anxiety and confusion.

In Year 6 Maths, unorganized note-taking meant key formulas were missing when revising fractions.

Another senior student hesitated to write working out for worded problems: "He holds back in case he gets an answer wrong," so mistakes remained hidden and feedback couldn't be used effectively.

Recent Achievements

One Coogee tutor recently saw a Year 9 student, previously hesitant to ask for help, now actively seeking clarification whenever confused—a big change from just nodding along in earlier sessions.

A Year 11 student has started fixing mistakes independently after only one correction, where before he would repeat the same error several times.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to stumble over times tables is now recalling them more smoothly each week and even completed a new set without prompts during their last session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Brigid's Catholic Primary School.
