Learning science takes a lot of effort. Students not only need to know the content, but how they can use concepts, when they can use them and why it's the right approach in a given situation.
Scientific thinking isn't easily acquired, but the skills are useful across fields and many future careers are built on them. It's a fascinating field with many applications - that's why students choose to put in the time and learn it.
Most students manage to stay afloat or even excel at physics all on their own, they master most steps along the way. However, sooner or later everyone needs help.
Learning how to analyse and solve problems as physicists do is an enormous leap. So how can you get involved and make it just a bit easier for your child?
One way to lift the burden off your child's shoulders is finding someone who will be there when they need it. If they have someone they can relate to, with the right approach at the right time, students tend to achieve their goals easier.
This is how to get started.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
She has been under the strategy of self questioning, and this has proven to be most effective for her. She does have confidence issues and so I have given her easy answers to boost her confidence, then moved her onto harder questions, pushing her to make mistakes and to show her that these mistakes are ok.
Aaron has a positive attitude in tutoring, asking question when he does not understand and works hard to do his best. In doing maths, he need to be aware that solve questions requires working out and sometimes he forgets.
I think that Jonte can struggle a bit with the idea of negative numbers and when things are raised to the power. However, we have been working on this and he has definitely already improved, and I imagine that after some more practice he will become a lot more comfortable and confident with this topic.

We are more than happy with Kancelot. He and Rohan seem to get along well, he is punctual and polite , and is also helping Rohan improve his maths skills.
Yes, everything is going well and Avishag is GREAT! She is clear, direct, and no-nonsense, which is exactly what Is needs (can't get away with anything), and yet this is balanced with underlying kindness (motivated to do well). It's not something I can describe well in words, but Isabelle definitely responds well to Avi's method. She has improved to passing the most recent test (from massively nowhere near passing), and I can see her confidence in math has improved, too. She was shocked to suddenly find herself helping some of her friends work through questions that they couldn't understand, and enjoyed the feeling, so that is an achievement! Yes, she still has a long way to go, but we're off to a good start. It's so good to have Avi reinforce methods of organization and skills that don't register for Is when I mention them, too! We are both very, very grateful to have Avi help Is through this.
We are extremely happy with Estephanie. She has managed to hit exactly the right note. We are just looking for Isabel to understand some basic principles and Estaphie is managing this with patience and skill. I cannot speak highly enough of Estaphanie.
