The most important thing or a challenge for a tutor is to involve a student in a subject not just for it's technicality but for its application in real life. Therefore it's important to find the bridge between what you study and real life in not all but most cases to keep studies interesting. If not, find a funny way or create a situation that…

For me , it is that they understand the lesson. Because I think that if children come to for studing then they learn go home after learning something. I always wish that the things I have learnt regarding the subject, i give my all knowledge to them. Frank to say, my friendly nature. In my opine , with being friends with kids teaching can be…

All the students have unique learning methods so as a tutor it is essential that we take that into consideration and orient the classes in a way that is comprehensible and engaging for that child. The tutors should always be very patient and respectful of the child as no every child learns at the same pace. I believe that I am very patient and…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand that each student is different and learns best in different ways and at different paces. I also firmly believe that engaging the student by doing things like connecting concepts to the real world or even to the student's own interests is paramount for the overall retention…

A tutor should understand the student's ability and capacity of learning. Then the tutor should teach the student in a particular way to make him understand the lesson in his unique way. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to take the time to understand who the student is. not every student learns the same way and the only way to effectively help someone is to take the time to know them first. I consider comprehension and confidence in one's skills to be the most crucial thing a tutor should endeavour for their students to grasp. Once a student's comprehension level reaches a certain stage, their progress will be much faster and smoother. Whilst also their confidence becomes a fuel of reinforcement for their drive in achieving their…

Understand what their problem is and where they are struggling is truly important as it can provide the fundamentals of teaching a certain topic or skill for the student to learn. Adapting to students knowledge and way they learn is also important as a student could be a practical learner with real life examples or a theoretical learner,…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them truly understand the material, not just memorise it. Be there for the student when they need help, and never losing patience with them. Students need reassurance that they will always have someone to help them no matter how 'silly' they think their questions are and won't be judged. A tutor should support the student best they can and provide them with resources to help along the way, also making…

Be friendly to the student, show the student that they are confident in them, allow the student to think for him/herself. A tutor should understand that each…

My English teachers in my final years of school showed me that putting trust in students and adapting to their individual needs is one of the best ways to help them improve. Inside Cranbourne EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Arman focused on improving multiplication using box and lattice methods, then revisited addition and subtraction skills through targeted worksheets.

In Year 8, Mahima tackled simultaneous equations by learning both the substitution and elimination methods, alongside expanding and factorising algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Jessica concentrated on drawing linear graphs by calculating gradients and intercepts, as well as applying index laws for multiplying and dividing indices with like bases.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, messy or unclear written calculations led to confusion, especially when simplifying algebraic expressions—one tutor observed, "She needs to fix some of her maths layout, primarily on how she sets out her calculations."

A Year 10 student hesitated to ask for help with difficult worded problems and spent too long worrying about unfamiliar concepts, which slowed progress.

In senior years, a lack of double-checking persisted in probability and indices work; mistakes often went unnoticed because answers weren't reviewed.

When homework was incomplete in Year 7 algebra tasks, earlier gaps in times tables knowledge remained unaddressed.

Recent Achievements

One Cranbourne East tutoring session saw a Year 10 student finally stop needing the tutor's approval after every algebra step; she now checks her own work and only asks for feedback at the end, a big change from before when she needed reassurance throughout.

A high schooler who used to get stuck on index laws now completes homework independently and has improved her maths layout significantly.

In Year 5, one student who was hesitant about long division is starting to write out each step methodically, even converting remainders into fractions—a habit he hadn't tried before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cranbourne East Primary School.
