The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make themselves welcoming. A good and effective tutor is open to all ideas and willing to completely work with the student. The most effective tutors will offer a variety of perspectives and welcome all criticism and differing opinions. During school, I struggled with breaking down tasks,…

The first greatest thing that tutor can do for a student is serve as a ladder for the student to progress to next level of life in any kind of circumstances and letting students to take challenges as an opportunity. In ensuring promising life for those innocent students and making them succeed in the field which I had processed with and moreover…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. If the child is stuck on a concept, it is my responsibility to help the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is recognise their students ability level and mould their teaching to that level. This insures that the kids do not feel out of depth, but also they are learning new things every session. I am a very social and friendly person making it easy for me to build strong rapport with the students, and as a result…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. In a classroom, it's easy for students to lose confidence if they're afraid of getting answers wrong or feel left behind. From my own experience, I know how much a great tutor can change a student's mindset. I wouldn't be where I am today without tutors who believed…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide a safe and educational learning environment where anyone can ask any kind of questions without the fear of being judged. With that being said, another important factor a tutor should always provide is personalized teaching methodologies to meet anyone's individual…

Encouragement and being able to explain concepts in a digestible manner are what makes a good tutor, but a great tutor checks in on students to make sure that they are thriving. It takes courage and self-reflection to find a tutor in the first place, so the least a tutor can do is make sure to give the tools for a student to make it on their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a tutor must…

Be adaptable and change teaching methods based on what the student needs the most, whether that's different exercise styles or explaining a concept in a different way. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

I think for a tutor it's being able to be contacted even after lesson hours. As for maths, it's very difficult to find solutions online and last minute stress before an exam is not good, so I think being available to be contacted and being flexible is the most important thing for a tutor. I like to make the classes interactive and fun to keep…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening to them and paying attention to their needs. Students can be shy and may not make it abundantly clear what they need in any given moment, but there are usually signs, though they may be subtle. Inside Cremorne PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Xander focused on trigonometric ratios and reviewing concepts from his recent maths exam to reinforce understanding of key topics.

In Year 7, Soraya worked through past paper questions covering algebraic factorisation and quadratic equations, with an emphasis on both the quadratic formula and completing the square.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student practiced rounding numbers as well as using visual aids to understand fractions, building confidence in core numeracy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, Charlie needed to look back at notes often for trigonometric ratios and equations not provided in exams—this slowed her down during problem-solving and risked gaps if resources weren't available.

In a Year 10 session, one student hesitated with algebraic problem solving, "deferring instead to decimals" when unsure, which meant missed opportunities to build confidence with unfamiliar techniques.

A Year 7 student sometimes left homework incomplete or prioritized easier addition problems over those involving carrying; as noted, "she completed long addition questions that did not need carrying." This led to less practice with the challenging skills required for tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cremorne Point noticed Charlie, a high school student, now tackles past exam papers almost entirely on his own—he used to rely on his notes but recently completed a whole paper independently and highlighted key points for revision.

Soraya, also in high school, demonstrated a big shift by not just solving area questions quickly but explaining her reasoning aloud without prompting; previously she hesitated to share her thought process.

In primary, Xander struggled with number sentences last week but this time answered every one correctly after extra practice, showing real improvement in accuracy and self-correction.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loreto Kirribilli.
